So, I'm cheap and don't want to pay $33.00 for a rubber exhaust coupling (between the pipe and silencer). It is plain rubber (heat resistant of some sort I'm sure), with no metal mesh inside or anything fancy. What do you guys think about using a comparable diameter piece of radiator hose? Think it'd melt? Anybody ever substituted something besides the factory part with good results?

Thanks guys.:D

I wouldn't use any RTV it gets hot and comes out just like the rest of that crap, well at least for me it does maybe I'm RTV retarded!!! Look around you can get aftermarket couplers much cheaper!!! And there even pretty

Well, I happened to have some new radiator hoses laying around for Momma's car (I'll never put them on anyway- they were given to me when I bought the car), and, whattayaknow? Same exact diameter as the coupling! I just cut a piece the same length, slid it all together, tightened the clamps on it, and it's a done deal.

We'll see how it holds up. ;)

My neighbor was looking at the Z today. He's an auto parts guy for a living (for what that's worth). He says my radiator hose exhaust clamp won't hold up.

We'll see...

He says some Napa stores carry a high-heat tubing in various diameters. He told me to get a couple inches of that and it will last much better than the radiator hose.

is it where one peice slips into another? or is it a spot where you have apeice of pipe missing?

The pipe and the silencer actually butt up end to end, more or less. There's a small gap between the two, but both pieces are the same diameter, so it's not a slip joint.

I got some stuff at Napa today. One of the guys there said he's been using it as an exhaust coupling for quite some time, with no problems. Two pieces of it cost me $2.50- much better than the $33.00 the shop wanted!!! It's some sort of radiator hose, but with a higher heat and pressure rating than normal radiator hose. Costs like $12.00/foot.;)
