View Full Version : Need Help.....Axel Removal
Like bone-head I left my 86 350X service manual on my desk at work.
I'm trying to get the axel lock nut off (First Time) and I'm having a tuff time.
Could somebody lead me in the right direction.
Thanks

First thing to know is that it is left hand thread.
They can be really tight, I put the trike on the stand, put the wrench on the nut, and rotate the rear wheels to bang the wrench on the floor.
If you do not have a wrench, you can really bugger the nut with the big channel locks.
I have the tools to do the job.
Do I need to put a wrench on the inner nut while I rotate the outer nut?
I can get the outernut to rotate to the right and the left, bot it tightens uo pretty good bothe directions..
I need to rotate the outer nut to the right.......Correct?
Thanks

OK
The inner nut, the little skinny one, is the locknut.
Loosten it up a bunch.
The outer nut, the big part, is pushing up against a clip ring in a groove in the axle.
Loosten the big nut until the snap ring is exposed.
Take the snap ring off
The brake disk assembly will now slide off of the axle, and the axle will pull out from the other side.
Between the time of my post and your last reply ATC Nut, I finally realized how to get it apart.
Since then I removed the axel and swing arm. My swing arm is cracked at the axel housing weld into the axel housing. I could have it fixed or I can by a brand new one for 75.00.
ATC Nut....I see your from Auburn WA, I live in the Puyallup/Summit area.
Thanks for your tips.
