Repairing fenders

How is the best way to clean faded and painted fenders?
My tank on my 85 kxt is faded bad and I tock a paint scraper to it and the color came back a bit but still looks like crap.
I looking into a 86 tri z white and red in color but it was painted maroon.:bash:
