Hi guys, New to the forum here. Im restoring a 1987 TRX 70, One I bought for my son to learn to ride on 13 years ago. I have 6 children, and Im restoring this to give to my 2 daughters (age 4) for christmas this year. They already love th powerwheels, so this is the next step. Been working on it for a bout a year now, all new cables, levers, bearings, handlebars, plastics, wheels, etc.. I was going to get a Lifan motor, however I came across a Barely used (by barely, I mean approx 12 hours of use) 1985 atc 70 engine. I went through the motor and everything is as new, so I installed it. Knowing IM coming from the older points style motor, to a newer cdi system, My intial thoughts were to come straight from the motor to the coil, however I am not getting ANY spark from the plugwire. I get great voltage coming from the motor, so points work fine. I suppose ,my question is, does the TRX 70 , being CDI ignition have a different coil then the ATC Points ignition? I cant get the voltage to travel the coil. IM not ruling out that the coil may be bad, however it worked when I started disassembly about a year ago. Maybe moisture damage? I could really use some help in figuring this out, or trouble spots to look at. Thanks kindly in advance for any help!

Could I retrofit everything from the old TRX motor onto the ATC motor and make it pointless also?

The coils are different. Plus you wont use the TRX ignition module either (the ATC doesn't have one). I guess the easiest thing to do is get a coil for a ATC70 and you should be in business. Whats wrong with the TRX motor that you don't want to use it?

Nah the TRX motor went through 13 years of abuse and 3 kids, The tranny wouldnt shift, it needed new piston and rings, a new cylinder, etc.. Much more practical to just go after a different motor. Thanks for the response!

THE CRANKSHAFTS ARE DIFFERENT,,, so you can't swap ignitions,, the flywheel tapers are smaller on the atc motor,, been there,,, i also tried the trx coil with a atc motor with no luck,,, so i went back to all 85 ignition and starter ,,,
