I have an 86, drilled airbox, k&n filter, dg pipe/silencer, stock gearing with 22's. Im trying to figure out if I have a problem or not, possibly with the clutch. Its not running as fast as it should, my first z so dont really know what to expect though. Before it did rev more and feel like im spinning, and not going anywhere but after adjusting the clutch, it no longer does. It just feels slow. I know theres a problem somewhere, I barely beat a raptor 350, by a bike length or maybe two. But it runs fine, shifts good, idles good. Looking for a quick answer! Im going to try and get an idea of how fast this is and need to know what I should expect from it. Thanks!
Revving strong & shifting through all the gears fine, just not going? You're probably right - could very well be the clutch. If adjustments to the cable don't fix things you may need new springs & pressure plates. Don't take my word though, I don't own a Tri-Z. Just a gut feeling. I'm betting that someone here knows for sure! Good luck with it!!!

Give it a compression test. You want to know how fresh your rings and bore are. Back in the day the 2 stroke guys would go through 3 or 4 sets of rings with the occasional hone between bore jobs. If you have over 100-200 hours on your rings it might be time to freshen them up.

Thanks, it dont rev and feel like its spinning anymore though, I adjusted the clutch some. I still want to get a clutch kit for it sometime.
The guy said the motor was rebuilt, and he never really rode it. I will give it a compression test though it feels good. Still how fast should it be?
Im starting to doubt anythings wrong with it, but just dont have that power im looking for or expected. I know some say the z's arent all that fast near stock.

TRI-Z's run in between 68-78 MPH ... 5&6 speed models
