i am thinking of extending the swing arm on my 84 200x

is 4 " going to be to long for messing around ,trails backroads fields ,no sand dunes around here

is 2 " a noticeable difference?

also the shock seems to be kinda weak is the a shock that will fit on it that will make bottoming out less likly to happen

thanks

How modded is the engine? I have had several HEAVILY modded 200x's and a +2" was more then enough swinger for the most modded one.

I see absolutely no point to extending a 200x swingarm. They're not so powerful that you need help keeping the front end down, cornering ability will suffer, etc.

If you just can't help yourself, 2 inches should be more than enough. 4 would just take all the fun out of the bike in my opinion. That light, floaty feeling front end is what makes riding a trike a fun and unique experience. I say don't extend the swingers unless you really need to (ie: modded, high power machines).

I think some people look into doing this because they like that drag bike look rather than the short and stubby look of an ATC. Hell I love that look too but I have to remind myself performance is better than impressing your friends that see it parked.

mine is extended 4 inches. it turns fine in the trails. but i didnt extend mine for looks. mine is extended because i was sick of sitting on the tank while going up hills and hitting the gas. it would pop up. so i just extended it and no more problems.

Yeah that's another reason to have trailing arms extended 4 inches. Hill climbers do that all the time.

As far as steering goes I'd have to try one out. Any locals want to let me go for a test ride so I can see how well they turn haha? I guess when I think about it an extended trailing arm should distribute more weight to the front tire due to the rider not sitting directly on top of the rear tires. This could help with us fat boys riding smaller bikes. I know I rode a little 70 one time and I couldn't get it to turn while I was on the gas. It would just drag the front tire because all my 250 pounds was on the rear tires. I will say that you diminish your turning radius a great deal. That's just physics. Who tries to do a U-turn in a limo haha?

I guess when it comes down to it you have to factor in the size of the bike, the riders size and weight, how sharp does he or she really need to turn where they ride, and how wide the rear axle is.

Either way I want to go for a test ride on someone 200X with a trailing arm extended 4 inches haha. This will let me know if I’ve been talking myself out of it for no reason.

lol if you were in ny id gladly let ya take mine for a ride. i think you would be shocked on how it handles. sure the extended swing effects it a little but to tell ya the truth... i think it takes maybe 1 foot - 2 foot more to turn it around... if that. for me it was worth doing.
