If it only has 9 numerical digits, it's an earlier model. It has no letters at all in it? Seems like it would have to be a 83 or older?? My newer 225DX frames I think had the longer VIn number that's more standard, but seems like the earlier model years just had numbers?? Or is there a dash in there and the first 3 numbers gave you the year/model and the rest were the serial number?? Just can't remember off hand now... BUT I know for a fact that my Clymer manual has the ViN breakdown for the Yamahas, but mines on the 200/200E/225DX. I'm sure the 125/175 manual would have the VIN #'s in it.
Yamaha's Website only lists the 175 for 1982 and 1983 ONLY ... 125 went 1980 to 1985. This might help...
1980 is officially a model YT125G
1981 is officially a model YT125H
1982 is officially a model YT125J
1983 is officially a model YT125K
1984 is officially a model YT125L
1985 is officially a model YT125N
... So look around on motor ID, decals, exhaust dB info, etc for anything listing the model letter after the 125.
