Tonka Trike is giving me nothing fits. Last night I put it back to its stock configuration and installed the stock pipe and air cleaner. I also put the #58 jet back in and set the needle back to the middle.

It starts and idles beautifully. up to half throttle is ok but when I get on it from 1/2to WFO it just runs poorly. I did a plug chop and its light brown. There's no popping. I just don't get it.

Could the points cause it to run like this?

This is a brand new carb

Alright guys, where do I go from here. I'm ready to light this thing on fire!!!!!!!

points could cause this. worn points change the timing.

it is the piece that rides on the lobe that wears,

also, what is the compression of this motor??

is the cam chain streached?

New points and new cam chain. I just rebuilt the motor. All indications points to the carb but the plug tell the story.

New valves
Piston skirt was within tolerence as well as the bore so I replaced the rings. That's why I'm so perplexed.

What does your gut say?

I would guess its still the points.. did you try another set of points?

My gut is telling me carb. I'll recheck the points though. I spent an hour getting them adjusted initially because i kept second guessing myself.

try a big ole fat jet to see if you can get it to run better ,,, maybe rich but better... if not i would retime it,, and look at the valve clearance,, if it idles it must be ok on cam timing ,,, raise the needle all the way up too,,,, go from one extreme to another to see if there is a difference,, moving it one groove might not make enough of a difference to notice ,,,

by the way don't set it on fire!!!!! trust me on this one:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Roger that Kasey, I'll standby on the Honda Bonfire. With aftermarket pipe on I had it all the way up to a #80 main jet and a K&N filter and it was basically the same. Ok through 1/2 but WFO it just stuttered but if I kept the motor wound up a little high it was so so in 3rd and 4th gears. So really by putting it all back to stock I have gained nothing. hmmmmmmm... The symptoms are still basically the same.

Well I figured out the combination that allows Tonka Trike to run its best. Points set, #58 main, needle all the way down, pilot at 1 3/4 turns, and the key........ the stock airbox is uncapped on the ends with no filter. WTF???? If I leave the filter out but cap the ends, it sputters at WFO. Take the ends off and it runs great. Some one please explain this one to me cause I don't get it.

Needs more air. Replace the stock air box with a high flow clamp on and you will be good to go.

You need to put a bigger clamp on filter on. I would try one for a Banchee.

I put the K&N knockoff back on and moved my clip 1 down from center and it seems to run pretty good.
