Hello everyone,

So I found a CDI for my bike and on the same bike was a good set of triple trees for the front forks. I only need/needed the bottom triple tree so thats all I took. From the information I gathered, all Yamaha triple tree forks should interchange. Well unless I didn't understand correctly they don't. I have an 83 chain driven YTM 200 and the triple tree I found was off an 83 shaft driven 200. The triple tree off the shaft driven one is probably a healthy inch wider on each side then mine.
So... Seeing as i had to drive 2.5 hours to find this parts bike; what years or bikes will interchange??
I guess I might be stuck going back to grab the upper part of the triple tree as well as long as the guy will sell it to me. Haha
Any information is greatly appreciated.

Oh and stuck the CDI on and the bike fired right up!!

ok actually new question.
I was looking in the tech tips at the possible parts interchange and looks like the 84/85 don't interchange for the steering stem with the 83. on the tag on the neck of the frame it said the year 83. Now is that an 84 model produced in 83? or is it an 83?

The 200E triples are about an inch wider than the 200 chain/225DX triples. The 200E Shaft drive has 25-12 by 9 tires all around, 200 Chain and 225 have 22-11 by 8s. Shaft triples are wider because the tire is an inch wider.

If you buy the rest of the wider triple, you will also need to buy the wider front axle/spacer/hub setup.

You need to find the model code on it.

YTM200K 83
YTM200L 84
YTM200N 85

There's a decal about noise dB ... find that and it lists the model year and the official model code with the year letter.
