Ok gentlemen, My name is Kris I am 25 from Yakima Wa. Ive been riding trykes my whole life. Dad bought me a 70 70when I was 5, since then its been(4)110,125,185,(3)200X,(2)250R,and a 350X. I am a aerospace machist/weleder by trade. I am getting ready to tackle (in my mind) the biggest project of my life. The 250R's rip but to be honest I need more! I am going to build a 500R. I have been gathering info for about 2 months, and Im still very unsure about so many things. Lou from Lous garage built the nicest one Ive seen, he did it right, and was nice enough to give me some info. Now, I hear that the 85,86,87 CR500's are the fastest, but they are hard to start, and the 90's are not as powerful, but a whole lot easier to kickstart. Now I'm in this for the power so Im leaning toward the 80 model, but I have a hard time believing that they can be that much more powerful. Does anyone know about this? And do all cr 500's have 6 gears? I am going to buy the best raidiator I can find, any suggestions? And one more question for now, what do you think would be a good sproket ratio?
Thank you,
Kris

WOW, you have done more than you know. You just raised the bar...really high! Man where I come from I am the only tryk guy around. Im known for it. But I thought I was a dying bread. Im glad I finally became a member of this site. That 500R is the badest one Ive ever seen, I love how you kept it red. Im going to do the same thing. What year 500 did you use, is it hard to start?

Hi Kris, I'm glad you found 3wheeler.org. I remember a couple emails from you. I'm very flattered but I'll be the first to admit my 500 is not the nicest there is. I will toot my horn and say its one of the best bike conversions though. Kasey's 500 is excellent as well as 200x_basket's, and I'm sure a bunch of others I'm not thinking out. Seriously, check out some of the older threads on the board, do some searches, you'll find some really awesome machines here and some great people!

I also like Kasey's..here's another picture of it. Are you building it to race or just for fun?

i am running a 87 motor. The later ones made a little less power and are easier to start because of some scallops honda cut into the cylinder to lower the compression a little. after a few bores they are gone or can be machined back in place.

How quick are those 500's on the dragstrip compared to a modified Banshee (Pipes, ported, jetted, higher compression)? I know they must be a blast to ride with all that torque but can they beat those high revving twins on the strip? I am also wanting to build one to mostly drag race.

Thanks so much for all the pics, and info. I was thinking today, why a 250R. My 250 is perfect, its torn apart, but I havent cut anything yet. I was wondering if I could use a 350x. I dont see why I couldnt. I have an 86 350x that I have beat up a little. Can I use that? I dont see why not. Any suggestions. What has bigger brakes, 85 250 or 86 350? Someone asked for pics, I dont have any on my computer, but I have a ton that are waiting to be scanned. Ill get them on here soon. Thanks again guys. Oh ya gears any suggestions for all around use?

Your R looks very sharp basket.
You have never lost or you have never lost to a trike? Kasey told me this samething last yr, and that was all the motivation I needed:D

i do not have alot of time drag racing it but I hvae only lost the one race that i mentioned above. I have no idea how many bikes i have ran against. they all lined up at once and went at the drop of a flag. I would guess I ran around 50 bikes though all the races.
I know there are WAY faster bikes then my 500 but i was top dog right then :)

That is a good feeling to have the quickest around for sure. I am in between building a 500 conversion or a dunebuggy. I have had alot of quick bikes like my 93 banshee,97 RM250, 86 350x, etc... but I like the way those buggies wheelie and they look like a blast to drive. I am finishing up my CR250 engine on a 250x chassis next week and I'll post the finished pics. Later
