anyone know where I can get some for my '86 Tecate? I need to move my carb backwards a few mm and figured that would be the easiest way to do it.

something that i did to one of my old kx's, i found reed spacers alittle hard to find, so instead i took a piece of radiator hose that was the size of the carb. intake side, and clamped it on to the carb, then where it would meet up with the airfilter hose i put a clamp on it, and used honda bond silicone to make sure it was a tight seel. with the few millimeters that you want to move it, this would be really easy to do, as you probably wont have to make any corners with the pipe.

WOW i did a little looking on the web. And found nothing for it. You might not be able to find it by app. But you might be able to match it by size. And use one off of a quad or something. From what i have read about them. They are really going to increase the power on that Kawi. I know like it need`s it LOL:D .

trust me this thing has way more than enough power for me right now! it's just that this replacement carb isn't quite wide enough and the outlet is too small for the intake boot so the guy stuck this rubber spacer in it that keeps popping out! :mad:

it's that round thing next to the dipstick.

Hey Fuzz Man you said that a reed spacer will ad power? is that like putting a spacer between the carb and the intake on a 4stroke? just wondering about these two strokes?:confused:

Pretty much the same thing as a 4-stroke, allows the fuel to atomize more AND provided a longer intake tract for more bottom end power :p You could make one out of alum plate. And if you only need to move it just a bit you could gasket seal two reed gaskets together with a thin sheet of metal in between and then bolt it up ( :eek: you don't need the thing sheet of metal, it just might help it hold shape :eek: )

well no dice on the radiator hose idea. I got some heavy duty hose that I could just barely squeeze onto the carb end. trouble was it would NOT fit into the airbox boot no matter how hard I tried.

back to square one. :mad:

when I got my 350x the carb did not fit right on the big tube from the airbox to the carb. It had been apart so long that the big tube kept popping off. I ended up heating the big tube with a heat gun until it was really hot and pliable, then clamped together good. Try some head on the stiff hose, it might fit then.

thanks for the tip. it's holding together for the moment. what kind of fluid would it be safe to spray around the carb to check for leaks? If it ain't leaking I aint' gonna worry about it.

Here's a tip from a Shade Tree Mechanic, get your propane torch, start the pig and get it so it will idle, operating temp, then turn on the gas and wave it around were you want to check for leaks, if the idle speed changes, rises, or dies out, you my friend have an air leak!! :demon: :yup: :demon:

hey stan man.....
as far as power increases in 2 strokes goes,
you want to move the reed cage back from the cylinder(spacer in between the cage and the jug)to allow the reeds to open up even further.of course this shortens the life of the reed, but its worth it!

I always thought you added a reed spacer on engines that had the reed tips to close to the clyinder, moving them back improved the flow enough out weigh the negitive affects of adding more volume to the crankcase like the reed spacer does, I know a few MX guys that have spent thousands of dollars over the years trying to stuff their crankcases and reduce its volume.

I suggest you remove the cylinder and look to see just how close the tips of your reeds are to the cylinder itself or find a engine builder that has built a few engines like yours to see if one is required, I suspect the reason why you can find one is because it is not required then again Pro-Design will make anything out of billet aluminum if they think someone would buy it even if it hurt your power output :-)
