Found what I believe is a good deal for a 1986 Tecate 3 for 300 dollars.
The plastic is rough and is missing a rear shock and exhaust but the motor turns over freely and all the electronics are there.
I was just wondering what kind of aftermarket base these have since I really have never got into them. Or if anyone can head me in the right direction for parts and what mods to do and not to do.
thanks
chris

I can tell you a few things: A Kawie dealer is the best source for fenders, the gas tank is irreplaceable, DG is the only pipe maker, many parts are discontinued by Kawie, the air box is stange looking, the rear shock is always a problem. But I am glad to have one anyway.

Tecates are a labor of love. They dont hold up or take the abuse as well as a Honda but they are very fun to ride and have great power. I agree with the stuff ThreeR's said plus maybe you will have to get a stator/flywheel setup from ricky stator. The rear shock will almost for sure be a gonner but I hear one from a later 300ex fits right in. Looks like it has a aftermarket pipe from back in the day.

If it's anything like my 85 Tecate the parts are almost impossible to find. It seems like people hoard them or something. haha.

Chris...
I've got several really nice stock pipes for the '86 T3...sorry...no silencer. DG still makes pipes & silencers for the T3.
Rear shocks can be rebuilt...you just have to know where to get the parts. :)
Not much for aftermarket parts available new anymore. Some stuff pops up every now and then on E-Bay...but be prepared for a bidding war.
Sprockets, gaskets, seals, fork seals, brake pads, pistons & rings, carrier bearings, swing arm bearings, front wheel bearings are readily available.
The '86 T3 truly is a labor of love. You better REALLY want to own a Tecate because it will be a spendy ($$$) restoration process.
Post some pics of it if you can.

the deal didnt go through which sucks but i look at it as a blessing in disguise I get to put more money towards my tri-shee. I am still on the hunt for one so hopefully i will come across something again. Actually I think I'm going to pick up a quadzilla I know it has 4 wheels but still a beast none the less. I have a list of trikes and quads i want and the quadzilla and tecate are the only ones left.

Too bad. Don't give up on a Tecate. They hold a pretty good value when in decent shape.
Too bad you didn't get pics...I'm sure there's a few of us out that way that would like to snag the Tecate.
'Zilla's are cool too. I wish I had my Trinity powered '87 back.
