My 85r is pretty much stock, except for the K&N filter. I'm wanting some easy power upgrades and am looking to start by replacing my stock Keihin 34mm carb with a larger one. (I'll be replacing my stock pipe w/ a PT Hi Rev at the same time, reeds, too... anyway, I digress). It seems that I can get my hands on a Keihin PE 38mm for pretty cheap compared to the PWK. Does anyone advise against this carb(the PE 38mm)? Is 38mm too big of a jump for my stock motor? I don't care if it's a little less powerful, as the combination of these three upgrades will feel like a great upgrade. Both carbs will fit according to this link...https://www.justatv.com/pages/carburetor_atv_offroad_application_list/carbapps.htm
Thanks!
Couldn't really tell ya, but I know an 85 R with a PT hi rev and an ESR airbox delete runs like a scalded dog. I'd try the pipe and reeds first, see how you like the power, and if you're not happy then go to the bigger carb.

Yes either will work, and be a nice upgrade when jetted correctly using your new pipe and reeds. Who is going to jet it...you? Do you have access to an EGT reader?

I had planned on it...
No I don't have access to an EGT reader...

Both pe 38 and pwk 38 will work with no problem.
I would prefer the pwk! better throttle response from bottom to top.
I had a pe 38 in my stock t3 86 and replaced with an 39 pwk!
More power everywhere and better throttle response

That jives with what Duncan Racing is telling me. They recommend either the 39PWK or the 36PJ or stock with proper jetting. They told me the 38mm PE was a 4 stroke carb. But, I know the idea of special carbs for 2 strokes vs. 4 strokes has even been debated here as well. Thanks for the additional opinion, though!
