HELP! Quiet exhaust options needed!

I need some serious help finding quiet exhaust for my 85 250sx. I have a cobra "racing" series on there now and I don't think I can get the quiet core insert since it's the steel and not the alumnimum silencer. now i'm at the point where i'll whip together a generic muffler system so my damn bike is quiet. how different is the big red frame and the frame of the 250sx? i was wondering if they could have the mufflers interchanged. anybody out there, with any suggestions? i don't feel like paying 240 for a complete stock system. CAN ANYONE HELP!?!?

that's gonna be a tough one since "quiet" didn't enter the picture until long after the trikes went out of production. it looks like you'll have to watch feebay for a stocker.

Have you checkd out the Cobra utility series?. I think they make one for a 250sx. Or maybe a DG.

find a used stock one or look into the utility series by cobra. DG may make one but DG/cobra are the same exchaust.

i would try to put the big red one on, you can always modify it, you knever know its worth a try.

i want to try and see if i can just get a big red exhaust system and try to line it up to my bike and see what modifications i have to make to get it to hook up because i need to quiet the screamin monster down.

It looks like cobra does make a "megaphone style" exhaust. Here is a link from Dennis kirk for ya.

Now I have the megaphone style and inside is that quiet core....so if these are the same size pipes there should be no reason why a quiet insert wouldnt fit. You best bet is to talk to a dealer and get some measurements. good luck

thank you for your help jenn, i currently run the megaphone style i find it rather loud. i will try to see about the quiet core insert, that would be a lifesaver if it will fit.... but with my luck it won't... i will just have to wait and see.

is it properley packed?

I just cut the end off, remove the baffle packing and replace with my own still, weld it back together. quits it right down. its made out of a stainless (dam mentalblock) cant think of what its called its a sheet with very small holes in it. I will take a pic tomarrow.

yes it is packed correctly... thanks for the tip dads also, i assume you are running a megaphone also? here's the response i got from the email i sent to cobra asking if i could put the quiet core in the megaphone pipe:
The quiet core will not fit the steel pipe. You can quiet your pipe down by pulling the core out and wrapping new fiberglass packing around the core. Your local dealer will have the packing. Thanks for asking Cobra, ride safe.
So maybe I will look into that soon. Doesn't sound hard at all to do, and it'll be worth it in the end.

Cobra is telling you to RE-PACK it, so if its packed properly its not gonna get any quieter.

This is two mufflers; one the end is cut off. Some ones quick fix for more sound.
The other one I brazed in a now baffle. Not a pretty job but it’s for my tractor.

hows that thing soud without the spark arrestor??? i may just buy an old pipe and remove the spark arrestor and weld the cap back on. that is if it sounds good.

With ¼ inch holes in it and a little packing raped around it but the bottom holes Are not coved so when the packing clogs it will run and blow even more sparks.Is that the spark arrestor?

You see the mesh I use, the holes are around 1/64th. Not too many sparks get Through it. If I'm just crew sing you don’t hear me till less than 100 yards. It does not sound like a normel bike.

those holes ar to let the carbon out. they should have two bolts plugging them unless you cleanin them out. thats where my muffler had rotted out and i have patch over that section. i like how it sounded before i patched the hole so i may go et another one and carefully take the spark arrestor out for that ballsey sound.
