Do you prefer twist or thumb throttle?? I'm looking to get a MotionPro twist for my 39mm PWK. I have always used thumb, but I kinda like the twist on my friend's Banshee. What do y'all use??

My 200X has a thumb but I might put a twist on it this winter. I have a twist on my 2005 Yamaha Raptor and I like it alot. I put it on before I ever rode it so doint know what it was like before. I do alot of motorcycle riding and stuff too so that could be why I prefer the twist. I am just as good with the thumb on the 200X it seems like. Guess I will find out eventually what I like better when I change it.

This is the only thing I would use a thumb for........:loser: HAHAHA..................
Seriously..........
I really love my twists on sport trikes. On the utes, I keep it factory but sporty ones deserve that twister on it.

Its you guys that make me have to get rid of twist throttles and go e-baying to find thumb throttles on all the heaps I haul home. :lmao:
Really though I like the thumb throttle alot better on trikes or 4-wheelers. I think there is a reason they dont come standard that way and bikes do. my 2-cents

On Technical terrain / tight Trails - it's better to have the Thumb Throttle .
But if your Riding Dunes , Go with a Twist Throttle .
Go buy the TerryCycle Thumb & twist throttle best of both world's all under one throttle ! ( Billet Aluminum )

Try these out
trigger style like a jet ski has, Craig bought one for the NIN-Z and where lovin it. I might try it on a X soon
you get full grip other than 1 finger extremely controlable. Just no front brake.

That no front brake thing would be no big deal on your 350x anyway:lmao: :lmao: Those triggers are cool. I gotta go with twist. less fatigue, more control.

When I was younger we had a mini bike with a trigger throttle. The only problem was... no brakes at all! haha. I prefer a thumb throttle. I have ridden dirtbikes and quads with twist throttle and I can't get comfortable with them.

Well us old fumps with arthritis in fingers have to have twist. Had to put on left side to keep contron on accel. Does anyone make a reverse twist for right side? That thumb & twist sounds intresting!!!

Thumbs are safer for sure. If your front wheel starts coming up and your not ready your body gets pulled back well your twisting the gas more with your body going back. A thumb throttle just move your thumb. When I went from bikes to trikes it happened to me on a hill I thought for sure I was going over backwards just moved my thumb and all good. If I was on a bike I would have been on the dirt for sure. For me a twist would be more comfortable but like I said I think thumb is safer and with three kids and a wife it's all about being safe for me.
Dammit!

I've been stalking ebay for a screaming deal on a dual gasser for a while. Seems like a cool idea.

I prefer twist because I can keep a secure/whole-right-hand grip at all times, but that's not all that it takes to control your machine.
The guys that worry about twisting backwards during wheelies or on hills are relying too much on their grips for control. Just like riding a horse at full gallop without holding on to the saddlehorn or pulling the horse's jaw off, you learn to ride with more of your body than just your fingers.

those same manufacturers quit making trikes.............does that mean you'll quit riding them?
were manufacturers right when they quit making trikes?
just because the manu's do it, doesn't make if right
Long live the twist:hail:

Theres alot more to it then you guys are talking about.
When riding a quad or 3 wheeler, (for the most part) you sit on ur butt and give it gas
On a dirbike you sit, stand, lean left and right, forwards and backwards. On a bike your body positioning is constantly changing, Because of the handlebar positioning compared to the bike and you constantly moving the twist works very well.
When your on a quad or 3 wheeler sitting on your ass, with the twist you give it gas lean back and it catches yo off gard and your on ur ass. Not saying that you cant do it but i would say for most people a dirtbike fits a twist and a quad and 3wheeler fits a thumb.

Good analasyis Nick HOWEVER sitting on your :booty: is not the best way to ride a ATV. Just like a Bike you should be moving around, standing, sitting, sliding left/right on the seat Ect.
The only time i sit on a trike is when i'm in the turns or if i'm going slow/cruising. When your sitting your suspension is not as effective (more weight is on the rear thus unbalenced) and you don't have as much control.
Your analasyis also colaborates my opinion that thumb riders are not as fast as twisters (for the most part) slow riders sit, fast riders stand.

Posted my thoughts before I could.
There are times when you can just sit on the seat and relax, but when it's time to ride, a twist just seems more comfortable to me.
From the time I was about 12 years old in '84, I've put twist throttles on every single 3-wheeler and 4-wheeler I've had that didn't come to me with one already. YTM225's, 350X, 200X's, 250R's, Tri-Z's, Tecate's(factory), Quadracer, Cagiva(factory), 250SX's, + many others ALL got(or had) twists. The only exception would be my first machine....a new '84 Big Red and my second, a new '85 Quadsport.
This is just my opinion and my preference...nothing more. I wouldn't encourage anyone to switch to a twist if they're uncomfortable with it. Thumb throttles are 110% better than laying up in a cast or in traction!

The positioning of a dirbike, Footpegs in relation to handlebars, it is much easyer to stand and more comftorable. I would say (for the most part) slow riders sit and fast riders stand. When standing i would say i have more weight on the rear leaning back where when sitting i feel like im in a much more neautural position.
I personaly can ride with eather no problem. Some bikes i prefer a thumb much more (typically the higer hp 3 wheelers/quads) Where others i prefer a twist.
When i first got my banshee it had a twist, and racing it i had no problem at all with it, Until in one race my hand cramped up soo bad i couldnt make it around the last lap. Couldnt hold tight enoguh to twist it (but rember i have to open 2 of the carbs you normally open one of). After that i went to a thumb.

I know on my last accident the twist throttle was the unlucky card that messed me up. My trike got nasty in the whoops going uphill so when the frontend came skyward going uphill your trying to hangon yet its hard to let off the throttle to calm things down.

Dont laugh, We know a guy that rides a sport bike with a thumb throttle on it and he can ride the s**t outta that thing. Its even crazier when you see it in person.

Make sure to pay attention at about the 4:57 mark and you will see one of the reasons he rides with a thumb. Not so silly anymore once you seen that. :headbang:

Not true! I know this is a motorcycle but they all still use twist.

The kid in this video lives not to far from me and we all ride with him at the lots all the time and his dad owns a small cycle shop on the south side of the cities here.
So, I have ridden both thumb and twist on a trike and can say I love the twist alot better myself. I dont know if its because of the experience I have doing stunts on the sports bike and riding dirt bikes alot. I like em both just prefer the twist alot more.
