ok so last week i got a new pull start rope on my bike as the old one snapped and i didnt think alot of it. Then i went riding yesterday and it snapped again in under or just over a week. Why would it snap so soon? Since the old rope snapped I've been using the decompression system alot more would i just need stronger rope? The rope i used was designed for lawnmowers and they both snapped in about the same place in the rope.

ok i had that prob with my ytm 200 it would break every week or so and it ended up being the pull starter itself. i bought a new used one and no more problems so you might want to check that out. but i found that ace hardwares largest diameter actual pullstart rope works best.

yea i know what your saying. i had bought a aftermarket recoil pulley (the wheel that the rope goes around) and it kept chewing up parts. it ended up being a flaw in the aftermarket part. i bought a oem honda one and it worked perfect after i did that.

How often should the recoil pulleys last? The previous owner said it had got a new starter in it not long ago (and i bought it in may of this year) and the original rope that it had when i got it looked like it had been in there for years because it was really really dirty and really puffed out that broke within afew weeks of my ownership of it and i replaced it and the replacement lasted for about a month or 2 and the previous owner said he got it done at the local honda dealer so i assumed it would be a proper oem part.It also felt really different to pull after it was last repaired.

i took my starter into the local mower shop where i purchased my last 2 sets of rope and they will work on it and try and see why its chewing up ropes so quickly and it will be done on monday
