I need some help getting my 70 to run right. Its got a new plug and i cleaned the carb. It fires up no problem idles ok runs decent but not right. First i cant seem to get the idle set perfect. Ill set it then ill ride it around and it seems to idle low so ill reset it and it idle high..and so on. Also off idle acceleration it bogs hard and back fires. If its idleing and i nail it it bogs down then takes off..It also does this under hard accleration you have to ease into it.

one problem might be the wiper for the points is worn, The timing is set by the points gap, and when the little wiper that rides on the cam of the flywheel is worn, it screws up the timing.

Try replacing the points and see if it gets better.

You will need the correct flywheel puller. (or you can try other things and then replace the flywheel before you buy the puller)

My 70 Idle was messed up too.One minute too low, then would rev hi.

Take the slide out,and where the screw for the idle speed hits the slider, the slider ramp gets burred up from the idle speed screw.Take a small file, and file the burrs off,and re adjust. It should idle good then.It fixed mine.

The bogging and hesitating mine was doing the same thing, then Sandpupi showed me this trick.........

Take the vent tube,at the bottom of the engine(the vent tube near the cylinder) coming down from the carb on the left side of the bike, block off the vent port on the left side of the slide housing with your thumb, then blow thru the rubber vent tube with your mouth .Blow until you see a little gas come out the air cleaner. This will force air up into the bowl and dislodge small dirt particles from your pilot jet. That should make it run better. If your pilot jet is really plugged, you may have to remove it and clean the little bleed holes by hand with a sewing needle. As long as your problems are carb related this should help.
Hope that makes sense.

Since I cant edit,I forgot too mention, shut the fuel petcock off before blowing back into the carb tube.
