sorry its been tried... the xr 500 motor is way to tall for a 350x chassis,,,,too much work not enough room........

The 500's arnt even a powerhouse, kinda weak in the power department IMO. If you look at the way the 500's bolt into the frame you will notice how much taller the XR is. You would be better off buidling a built X.

There have been two of those trikes in the San Diego area within the last month or two. I was talking to mymint about them. He's seen one of them, if not both. Not worth the money sum's it up. Apparently someone down in the San Diego region was making the conversions.

I seen a XR650 dropped into a 350x but it wasn't on this site. I couldn't find any details on it ether. He may have converted the dirt bike frame into a 3-wheeler but I can't say for sure.

the way I understood it, and from what I saw in the pics they were 350x frames.

all they do is weld a new front engine cradle on an existing X....sure, the engine hangs down a bit....but who doesn't like plowing whoops:headbang:

There was a guy last week on the "other" site that posted pics of his 500x. Looked like a real clean conversion. He cut the frame and did a whole new sub-frame, possibly removable if I remember correctly. The engine he used was out of an "Ascot". I'm not sure what that is, but I think it's some sort of street bike with an xr500 engine in it, minus the kick starter and add an electric start. I've never ridden an xr500 so I dunno if they're as lame as these guys say, but if you had the stuff lying around, I say go for it. I don't remember the pics of the one I saw looking like it hung low, it actually looked pretty sick!

the ascot was a street bike. last bike my grandfather owned before he quit riding. the xr 500 was like a 350 x with more "sack" to it. when the deck height difference was pointed out to me it kinda killed the idea for me. don't really want a bike that is prone to draging it's gut all the time. still day dreaming about a big bore thumpin trike but it may just stay a dream for a wile.
