rod question

my dad and i got the crank apart
the rod has grooves in it
is that good or bad
will i have to buy another rod
im suspecting the rods bad
looks like it was ran out of oil
im lookin for yas opinion

The rob and crank sirface should be smooth and perfectly round because needle bearings ride on them.
