Anyone know if there was a difference in color of plastics between the red 85 fenders and the red 86 fenders? I just bought an 86 and the fenders appear to be darker red. I am wondering if maybe they are aftermarlket?

yes there was/is a differance between Original 85 red and 86 red. The 85 were darker. I can't remember both color names but i believe 86 was "passion" red. the 85 was closer to a blood red but i don't believe that was the "offical" name

I've never noticed any difference in color from 85 to 86, but I see this question from time to time.

You'll only notice it if you compare Original 85 fenders to 86 and later.

Honda used a differant dye in 85 then 86. After the 86 dye change all fenders made used this color. They did not use the old dye and make additional "85" runs.

How can I tell if they are OEM or aftermarket? I am comparing the 86 to the OEM 85, and I cannot see any difference, so I am hoping they are OEM..

There should be a rectangle "WARNING" box formed into the plastic right behind the seat.
Maier plastics do not have that. I'm sure someone has a picture for an example of this, but I don't. ;)

Either set looks right at home on each bike, except for the different seats of course. If there's a difference in color, it's not discernable to my eye. Hmmm, maybe this is why people are always telling me my shirt doesn't go with my pants.

Well, damn it all.........I guess i am a little more confused. I bought an 85 that had OEM fenders, and there is a very noticeable difference between the 85 and 86. The 86 fenders appear to be much darker than the 85. The 86 fenders do have the warning stamp behind the seat, so I am assuming they are OEM. I am selling them on e-bay and do not want to mis-represent what they actually are.

Fenders also fade in the sun. Plastic is not always the same color now it was when it came from Honda.

Yep...same here except my brother has an 86 and I have an 85 and still, no difference.
