I have the choice between a Paul Turner chrome pipe, and a FMF pipe with light surface rust. There both in good condition by the looks of it. Which one should I get? There about the same price. I don't really care about the looks, only performance. It is for my 85 ATC 250R

It let me vote.. I don't know what the paul turner pipe is, doesn't say. I'll probably try to go with the FMF. Will either pipe be an improvement over the stock pipe?

What is the advantage of changing the main jet to a larger one?
Do you know if the stock 85 and stock 86 carburetors are the same size or is the 86 larger? How is the size of jets measured? I noticed you said "150", what is 150?

Will an aftermarket pipe just bolt up to the stock silencer without any mods?

I ran an FMF pipe for a while... in the dunes...i didnt think it had much topend...in the woods/trails i liked it...only ride my '85 in the dunes now...switched to LRD pipe, great topend and mid...but a pig on low end... BTW 85-6 carbs are the same...Kasey is referring to main jet size...stock is ...like 142 or 145...when you put a pipe on your bike it lets it breath a little better...so then you can pour a little more fuel down its throat:) ..in turn you go faster.. so yep go with the 150 main(bout $5) and you can change main jets without takin the carb off, take the big nut off the bottem of the carb...stick your 6mm(or1/4) socket in, and make sure you dont cross-thread the new jet going in...and let it rip..:lala:

i would have to say the Paul Turner pipe but for differant reason's. back in the mid 80's FMF was going through some bad times (internaly) and were not much of a player in the aftermarket wereas Paul Turner was the man building the pipes for Team Honda Factory Race Trikes. He has/had more experiance and inside info then anyone else. FMF are good pipes and you won't be disapointed. however price being the same i'd go P.T.
