I will start by saying that I have never owned a 3 wheeler before but hopefully that will change shortly.
I have found what may be a sweet deal but would like to find out what the goods and the bads are first. The deal is 4 yamaha 225dx's, in pieces but the guy said that 2 run and it sounds like that he has all the pieces but like I said up above, they are in pieces. He is asking $500 for all. I am worried that they are apart, and not sure if these are a good 3 wheeler or not. Is this a good deal?
Is there any trouble areas with these that I should look at?

Welcome Fuzz!
Well, 4 trikes means you have plenty of parts. The weak sports of the DX that I can think of are mainly the front shocks bending (can be straitened if not bent too badly), weak electric start motors, and worn cam journals if run low on oil.
Overall they are a good trike and the weaknesses can be overcome fairly easily. Parts are easy to find, including new parts. I think they are a good starter trike, they are not a sport machine but with the full suspension they can go where you want them to.

Thanks for the reply. The main reason I am looking at these are just to cruise around with my 2 buddies that just found Honda 200's. The way I figure it is if I want to rip, I have my quadracer. A 3 wheeler is about the only toy that I have never had so this may be a good time to get one.
Welcome aboard Fuzz and keep us posted on your progress with the Yammies!!!

welcome here to the madness. i had a 225dx once and the thing i did not like was it was the tipiest trike i ever had. but that could just have been me. but i have past up great deals since then on them for that reason. the honda 250sx is the closest comparable trike of a different brand. it is 5 times the trike in my opinion. also, if you get a trike and like it, you may want to get a 250r later after ya get the feel. they rip and can be made to REALY rip. not knocking on the quad. just thinking out loud i guess.

I would pass on the Yamaha. Get a Honda 200X at the minimum.

the deal sounds ok if you have the time........hopefully you can get at least 1 cherry trike from the parts.......plus you'll always have some spare bones for it

Well to update my noob status, I have gotten a 1982 Big Red. My buddies and I got a killer deal on 4 various Hondas so we couldn't pass them up. Right now we are working on cleaning them up and fixing the little problems we have come across.

Does the guy still have the 225 DX's?
