Well, my 85' 200x project should be done this weekend. I totally tore the motor down and had the crank rebuilt because the rod bearing was shot. I got a 66mm weisco piston (10.25 CR) and a powroll cam. New valves and valvesprings. Carbeurator overhaul. New swingarm bearings, bushings, and pivot bolt. While I had the motor out, i stripped the frame down, primered it, painted it red, and clearcoated it. I am going to buy some new plastics, and wheels too. I am also going to get a new exhaust? What do you guys reccommend? DG? It is going to be like brand new. I have a few questions though. When I go to install the rings on the piston, is there a certain spot that all the gaps in the rings should be facing? Can they all be lined up or what? The big question is this: When I finally get it started how should i go about heat cycling everything? Start it, let it idle for 10 minutes, then shut it off, let it cool, and do it a few more times? What about running it without a muffler on it? Maybe just the head pipe? Or is that bad. I have the stock muffler that was on it, but it has holes and crap in it anyway...? Thanks guys, sorry this is so long. I should have some pictures up sometime soon...

Yep i allways start them and let them run for a few minutes and listen for any strange noise. And adjust the timing chain. Then shut it off and try to pull it over again.

As far as the exhaust i wouldnt run it without some kind of pipe on there. Even if the old one has holes in it. Just put it on ther to test run the motor.

ok, thanks Fuzzy...so what about the rings on the piston. Thats the biggest thing before i put the head back together...?

The rings should be staggered so that the gap isnt in the same place on all of them or the pressure will just go right down in the crank case.

So if your top ring is pointed at 12:00 the secound one should be ponted at 9:00 and the third one should be 3:00. that will make it hard for the pressure to sneak past all three of them.
