the clutch on every shift? on my old 84 250r i never used the clutch(except 1st gear). i could shift it at full throttle through all the gears. on my 85 i dont use it but i have to let off of the gas a bit to shift. what about the rest of you?
MR.ATC(AKA MR.TURD :lmao: )..how about racing them ??

i try to but sometimes you can't. i wouldn't on the 1-2 shift because 2nd is a weak spot in that trans.

the clutch is the lil lever on the left bar right!? well arent you supposed to use it every time you shift or otherwise arent you jamming your gears together!?..cause in a car tranny it makes a nasty grinding sound wldnt it to do it in a motorcycle transmission also...well i always use a clutch whatever im driving...:D ..cause i dont think honda wouldve put it there if it wasnt meant to be used ;)

I usually only use my clutch for starting off, or finding neutral when it's running. Does it damage anything by not using the clutch? I always let off the gas before I shift on my 85 R and 86 200X. I also use it when going down hills.

i should have said that i also use it for downshifting it is smoother that way. and i dont think it damages it my father has always shifted like that on his street bikes.

On a trike your locking tabs into slots. on a auto your meshing gears, which means you have to match eng rpm to the speed of the output shaft of the trany. To shift up eng rpm needs to drop. to shift down eng rpm needs to go up.

I always use the cluth for upshifting on my 2 strokes, but never for downshifting. just never felt comfortable with it and my r doesn't like it too much. I usaully pull in the cluth half way and quickly shift without letting off the throttle. on my four stroke I never use the cluth, except 1st, honda xr250's, 400ex's, etc it almost seams like they were designed with the cluth in mind, they shift so smooth under power.

hey basket, as often as you have to rebuild your trikes I don't think it much matters whether you use it or not....they'll be back in pieces soon enough anyway. :lmao: ;) :P

I always use the clutch, no matter what. You run to much a chance of ruinning your shift star, or gears for that matter. but they do make an auto clutch that i have seen alot of drag bikes use, that let you hold the throttle wide open and shift all the way through the gears....
