A couple of you know I got Ted's 3rd 85 250r, I think here in Utah it is nicknamed "the ugly duckling" :lmao: :
When Ted got it:

When i got it:

Notice the pretty green motor and hubs ect?
After many hours of "clean up" I came up with this:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll292/sagep11/85250r2.jpg
Yes it still has the green hubs.
Well not being totally satisfied I saw an ad in the local classifieds, 85 250r torn apart, needs a crank bearing, powder coated frame, +6 swinger. After talking a bit and finding out he had another 85 r, we came to an agreement of some cash plus my stock wheels and tires off the r for it. A couple picts of the parts (sorry for the low quality of the picts):
Blue Frame and swinger:

PVL:

Ported K&T jug:
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll292/sagep11/250r2.jpg
It also has nicely polished side covers. I am missing some parts like motor mount brackets and a few other things. The plan underway is to make 1 great bike out of both.

My tecate is quite long also. I love the way it rides, but man they are almost impossible to slide in the sand. It takes some real leg work!

Looks good.
I would be very intrested in seeing what K&T vs other porting companys is like. They are well known for having some of the fastest bikes on the planet. I have not seen anything they have done in a single so I am curious if you have ran it againest other ported stock cylinder R's up the hill or down the flat...

From the info I gathered, pretty much the whole bike was done at K&T a long time ago. They did the porting, polished the motor, made the swinger, powder coating and rear brake block off plate. When I got it, it also had a polished shaved front hub, but it didnt use the front brake.
As far as racing, it does very well....for a 250cc bike. Flats the only bike I ran that beat me was a kx500 and he nosed me 2/5. Up the mountain it's never lost to a 250cc or 450 with mild mods. My friends actually raced it more than me up north @ st anthony, he beat alot of mild banshees and 450's, but did get hammered by alot of bigger banshees and a few full race 450's. I'd say it's comparable to a banshee with cool heads, pipes and carbs.....maybe.
This year @ mosh I still believe it was the fastest trike there. I raced everyone who wanted to and never saw anyone closer than a couple bikes behind me. But I guess the fastest will be debated....
I just put it together for a fun dune bike. Never had the intention of racing it for more than just fun between friends.
At Mosh I took it to the mountain to tune on friday, because the ride to the mountain and races were on Sat. My second run up the mountain it started to get a small tick. The next day running the mountain and letting others run it up, it got a little worse. The ride after up @ St Anthony it started getting really bad. I pulled the dome off a couple weeks ago and it has some deep scrathes in the cylinder walls. I should have the motor out this weekend and will snap some picts of the porting and the piston and walls, hopefully one of you experts can shed some info on what happened.
But yeah it just has, K&T ported jug bored 1.25mm over, 39mm pwk carb, fmf pipe, stock reeds, stock crank ect. I have had a boyseen rad valve sitting in the garage for almost 2 years I've wanted to put on, and then get an esr pipe for it.
Many others on here have rode it too, Wild200x, Eyceykold, Tri-king, HondaHarry..maybe they can shed morelight on it.

for the record, out of all the trikes around here, i want that trike pretty badly! i have ridden it and like the way it sits, rides, and handles. i am always telling Sage that i want the trike in my stable. i raced against it up the mountain twice w/the same results both times. it was close but i got beat.
now for the smack talk! lmao. Sage told me after we raced that if i had the same tires as him, i would have beaten him. i run sand skate 2's. and was it haulers you were running?? also, i the last month i have learned more about jetting and how to read a plug. i have found that i have been jetting way to rich and that is how it was at the time we raced. my port is by LMR. and then the exhaust port was raised another 1/2 mm at CPI. i was also running almost the same set-up. 39 pwk, fmf pipe, and so on. now i have a custom built CPI pipe. the trike about threw me off testing it on pavement.
Sage, we gotta run again. your trike is what i have come to gauge mine against. and i dream about racing you again. cant wait to see how the Alien stacks up now. but again, like you, i didnt put this together to race. its a great dunner, and that is what we like...not so much racing. and i am an :oldfogey:

Yep I think if Ted had a good set of haulers he would beat me up the mountain. His bike seems to have more power than mine, just not traction.
Yeah Ted I used to run 21x11x8 haulers (I got from you) now I run 20x11x10 haulers on it. The 10 rim looks way cleaner and is funner in the dunes, it has a little less hook and can slide a bit. The 8 inch haulers have way more hook, but are alot harder to try to slide.
I appreciate the instrest in my R, but honestly it just sits in my garage. I think it should be called the Mosh 250r, because that is the only time it get used. All of my friends I used to ride with don't go anymore so 99% of my riding is with my kids, and the 350x is much better for them to keep up.
Maybe I'll hold out another year till I can get my son an R, or maybe I'll sell it or trade it off.....I dunno.

In all honesty, it does not surprise me. K&T usually has the fastest bikes when they show up to a Planet sand event. I just have not seen anything they have touched in a honda 2 stroke. I'm sure there are a few out there, but nothing that I have seen in the Northwest.
Kim certainly could build a motor to be very competitive yet still very duneable. Be happy with what you have...good looking bike and it sounds like its a fun play trike. tks for the info:headbang:

Yea its fast. It has a long power band. I have never ridden anything that pulled so long (took some getting used too).
Even though your friends are broke fags:lmao: you should keep the r its one of the nicest 3 wheelers around.
Hopefully next year we can get out as much as 2009.

Ya I hope you can get out to the dunes more, riding with the kids is cool but it's nice to ride with the big boys once in a while.
