Hey guys (and gals!)- :D
I'm getting ready to get some new rear wheels and tires for my '85 200X, and I wanted to get some opinions from y'all. :D
I am strongly considering getting a set of 10x8 rims with Kenda 22x11-10 K-282 Vipers for it, but I'm not sure if the larger rims would be better or worse. I could also get 22x11-8 Viper's for the stock size 8" rims, but I'm leaning towards the bigger wheel. Is there any reason why I shouldn't go with the bigger wheels? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?
If it don't end up with the Vipers on it, I'll probably get Holeshots or something similar. Maybe even Maxxis All-Traks. Not sure...
I think the Vipers would be a good choice for the terrain I face around here, otherwise I would stick with the low-profile turf-tamers. I need something that can get me through just about anything.
Does anyone have any better suggestions?

Vipers are a personal favorite of mine and if i could only have one tire they would be it. just wondering though why not the 9" rims also they have a 20" version that has a semi flat/round profile that is a great compromise between a 22" ballon type and a 20" flat profile. i myself prefure the 20"x10"x9" version its the best all-around tire i've ever used

Thank you, Bill - this is exactly why I asked this question!
The main reason I opted for the 10' rims was because I found a new set fairly cheap on ebay, and I knew the Vipers would fit them...
Thanks for pointing out the difference between the 22 inchers and the 20's - without seeing them in front of me I'd never know the differences (can't tell from pics on the net!). I definitely prefer the lower-profiled tires anyway since I like the acceleration and bottom-end they give me, plus they look better. ;)
I would have mentioned the 20's but Kenda doesen't make one for the 10" rims.
I'll have to start looking for a nice set of 9" rims then, since I think I will probably go with your suggestion.
One other question: I see that the Kenda K-284 Front Max tires come in 23x8-11's and 23.5x8-11's. Why the 1/2 inch difference in those? Is one better than the other? Which would you suggest?
Thanks again!

The 250R's had the smaller size and 200X's the larger. I would go with the smaller one's because they run a little larger than the original stock ones anyway.

10x10's would be awesome :D
Let me get inDepth here being Ive tried all the styles on my 87 X in the rear on 9 Inch rims:
1st: 22x10-9 Maxxis SurTraks mounted on 9x9 Steel Utility Rims. Wouldve been the ideal thing if you lived in Alaska or in a swamp: lets put it that way. That package made it competitive with any 4x4 Quad. I hated it. To me, the entire reason to own an atv is to powerslide, and with these: even the best rider could only powerslide 2 inches on dry grass or dirt.
2nd: 20x10-9 Dunlop Stock Banshee Tires (Same as raptor if im not mistaken) mounted on 8x9 250R rims: These were -excellent- tires and going from steel and 22's to aluminum & 20's really woke it up in the speed department. At 1st I really realy loved it, it was allright for the extra tight woods BUT after I got out on a straightaway, it plain sucked. My buddy's Big Red 250ES had more top end then my 6 speed 200x, which is sad. I put a 14 tooth up front and it made a bit of a differance but I still wasnt satisfied.
3rd: This is my ultimate package here, 22x10-9 Yamaha Warrior Stock Dunlops mounted on the same 8x9 R Rims. This is the perfect combo to me. I get the sporty ride, speed and tricks, but i still have the traction and the lowend to take control of anything I choose, great in the snow as well.
Id try to get 22's on 10x10 Rims. 10 inch rims would really be excellent to have I thing. Just do -not- go to SurTraks, any mud tire or 20 inchers in the back.
Also: Do not go above a 10 inch width in tire.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure...
Thanks!

Good choice on the Kenda Vipers. I have those on my 200X and 350X. Probably one of the better general purpose tires for a sport atc/atv. Good price as well. Hopefully they last quite a while.

i run the stock raptor tires and really like them on the 250 i think they would be good on the 200x also. the only thing they can't handle is deep mud . they come on the 400 quads now so you might be able to get some as take off's from a local dealer since nobody seems to want the stock tire. one of the biggest things to keep in mind with trike tires is to not get to much traction or you can't turn the thing. thats why i can't run spider tracs around here. i'm really considering 22*10's next time since ground clearance around here is a big deal and 22*8's stink for handling. with the 20*9's you have a 5.5" sidewall with the 22*10's you have 6" which is mucho better than the 7" 22*8, of course sidewall stiffness of the tire you chose plays a big part also.
