I've got a Honda ATC 200 I think its an ES but I'm not for shure. Any ways there's this shaft next to the shifter and I don't know what its for. My brother said it has a plastic thing on it but it was broke so he just took it off. And I was wondering if maby it was for reverse?? Any ideas?

Here's a picture of it.

it should be your neutral indicator...the plastic deal pointed to a 'N' when you were in neutral

Ming has a chain drive and no reverse. If its not an es what could it be?

The plastic Neutral Indicator is missing. The snap ring at the end of the splined shaft is what holds it on.

Here is a link to the part that is missing:

could be a 200 or a 200s, could even be a 185

In the top right you can see the sub-trans of a 200e.

Old post, I know...

I just picked up a 84 200m and it has the same thing. When I took it off to polish the outer cover like chrome I noticed the plastic pointer with a locking clip on it and an "N" on the cover. At first I was thinking maybe the splined shaft was for a lever to shift into hi/lo or maybe reverse. L☺L

Its just a neutral indicator. The plastic piece does not in any way effect driveability.
