I just got ahold of an 85 kawi tacate, 250cc two stroke. The spark isnt real great in it. I hold the plug and it just gives like a nine volt shock. I know that it had some lighter flwheel or something done to it so it will rev quicker. From what i understand its inside the side cover. Where and what should i check and how? The engine is fresh but it has set along time. Where can I find parts to? Thanks for the reply and info. ssonny34@yahoo.com

Go to Ricky Stator www.rickystator.com and look up 85 Tecate. Get a stator and flywheel set and you will be good to go. OEM stators are lousy and the flywheel magnets have a habit of coming unglued. If you spin the motor fast enough (pull start with other trike) it mite start but will have a hard time staying running at idle due to a possible bad low speed coil on the stator. I could be wrong but have seen this symptom several times before resulting in a stator assembly and possible flywheel.

You need to pull the cover off and go from there. I got a bike with a "lighter flywheel" and it ended up having a pvl ignition in it.

I'm not gonna go along with the ricky stator comment either. I have had 2, one went 3 rides one went 5, my old oem thing I dug out of my box of parts is still going strong, and I have an oem in the glove box just in case. Let's not mention the wrong timing mark on the rickystator stator plate either. The ricky flywheel is a nice piece, kinda wierd how it looks alot like the stock one on my 85 250r I pulled off the other day. :duck:
