View Full Version : 185s carb question
Hi, I am having a hard time adjusting my carb. I put a new carb kit in it, but I can't get it to idle. It idles for a while then it starts reving up. How many turns out should the air screw be?
Thanks.....

If the idle changes at all while running, it usually indicates a vacuum leak somewhere. Did you replace all of the O-rings that seal the carb to the boots that it mounts to? Did you check the rubber on the boots to see if there are any leaks? You can check for a vacuum leak with an oxycetalene torch (cutting torch). Start the bike and let it idle. then open the valve on the torch slightly and aim the gas around the carb and boots. The motor will speed up when you pass the torch over the leak. Do this outdoors for safety!!!. I can't remember if it is the oxygen or acetylene that is used, it's been a long time since I worked as a mechanic. To find out, start the bike with the air filter exposed and blow some oxygen and then some acetylene at it. The motor will speed up when you use the right one. Happy hunting, GlennMc.
