Well Kasey did a good job of listing the main differances i will explaine a little more in detail;

the fenders; they are the same shape and will interchange from 85-86 the differance is the material they are made from the 85's are more brittle and will brake easier

the carb's: both are 34mm keihin but the 85 is a round slide and the 86 is a flat slide. yes the 86 carb is better and will work on 85

top triple clamp; 85 is polished aluminum 86 is black yes they are interchangable

headlight; the differance is the shape of the supports in the shell one has vertical the other has horizontal (can't remember which is which

forks; 85 use duel springs 86 use single spring in each leg. yes they can interchange

light switches; the color of the buttons and internally are built a little differant. yes they will interchange

swingarm/bearing carrier; the 85 has a smaller diameter bearing carrier and swingarm housing for it along with slots for chain adjuster. the 86 has a larger diameter and has holes for the adjuster. these are not interchangable unless you switch the whole set up which includes the next parts i will talk about

sprocket and bolts; the 85 use's hex head bolts to attach sprocket to axel hub. the 86 uses countersunk allen head bolts. this is because of the change in bearing carriers the 86 is wider on the adjuster side

rear caliper bracket; the calipers are the same but the way in which they mount to the swingarm is not. the 85 uses a 3 piece torqe arm setup and the 86 use's a 1 piece floatting bracket. these also are not interchangeable unless you use the coresponding swingarm

one thing not mentioned is the seat the 85 has a lower seat then the 86 aprox. 1 1/2" shorter they will interchange but the taller 86 improves handling. 85 says 250R ,86 says ATC

hope this helps

there are also many other minor differances but should not cause any problems
