ive got an 83 or 84 yamaha 225dx and it turns over great. last time i checked it had spark when using the electric start but just today i tried with the pull start(key off) and no spark. does the key need to be on?
i read on one of the boards about adjusting the valves and when i looked in my clymers manual it didnt say andything about the adjustment of the valves. how does one do that?
hopefully i can get this badboy running before the lakes freeze so i can ride my bike and the ole lady can ride this
thanks
mike
yes, you will need the key on, b/c usually, your ignition switch opens your ignition circuit in the off position

well we got it started by dumping so fuel in the carb. it only stayed running for a few seconds. so does that mean its running way lean? how do i adjust it?
if you had to put gas in the carb to start it sounds like the carb needs cleaning..

yea dads the carb was pretty bad. i forgot to drain it last year wheb i tried starting it and it gummed uo pretty bad.
got it cleaned up and still had to pour so gas in the carb but after a few seconds every thing cleaned out and it ran pretty good. had to feather the throttle to keep it running but it started up after it died. gotaa get the carb adjusted and a few odds and end and hopefully itll run good for the misses.
i noticed the vent tube that comes from the top of the motor and goes to the airboxcame loose and was spewing oil every where. is that normal? i hooked it back up and there was smoke coming out of the airbox. not fire smoke but hot oil kind of smoke. i need ti change the oil but will that fix the smoking issue or is that nirmal?
