Just need some tips if you all dont mind... I have 3 4 strokers that are terrible starters in the cold. Just short of getting an engine warmer what are some ways to get around that?? Thx jen

You could pull the spark plug and give each a couple of drops of gas down the cylinder. Then replace the plug and start it up. It should fire up on the first kick.

It can also be a result from running too lean. You might want to try dropping the clip on the needle jet one notch to give it more fuel for the cold weather.

My 87 starts 1-2 kicks in the cold if its been stored in ym heated gaarge, and 1-3 when its been out in the crap shed. Mine is jetted so that makes a differance but I also have the 12:1 compression piston.........If youre fouling it after trying too many times:

take the spark plug out
AirDry it with a compressor
kick it over without the plug
put a little oil into the head & put the plug back in.

Thatll do ti in most cases/

My s has been like that sense day one back in 85 when it came from honda or so my dad says he hasnt done anything about it and nethier have I just got a pull it about 5 or 6 times and she's good to go.
1=no starting
2=starts runs stops quickly
3=starts runs for longer time
4=starts runs lets me rev it up then dies while I'm putting my helmet on.
5=pull it once more and I'm off.
6=dies when I put it in first pull for 6th and final time and zoom I'm gone.

Went to camp yesterday and started my 225 DR and 200E for the first time in a month and a half to two months. Both machines started on the first pull, as they always do. And it was 28 degrees out! There is a reason i like my Yamahas.;)

Honda`s are like that to if they are tuned right. But people tend to set them too lean. Because they do most of there riding in the summer when the weather is nice. And as soon as it gets cold they need to be set a little richer so they can get more fuel. But mine almost allways starts the first time. If it takes more then two trys then i start takeing things apart.

Nah it was a pain to start in the summer too. By the way my 200x (without choke) and 350x(with choke and male leg) start fine its all my little engines the 110 and the yellow lemons. The 110 is kinda givin me fits...but i have checked everything. I will run it a tad richer and see what happens.

jenn those little japaneze chineze taiwaneze koreaneze or whatevereze they are ,,,LOL,,, are setup real lean to pass EPA STANDARDS ,you might need to go with a larger pilot jet,,,

i just bought a new honda waterpump , the salesman told me the same thing ,its jetted so lean to pass epa that it won't pull a load without the choke halfway on ,,, three jets later it runs like a honda should !!!

Mine starts in the summer fine first pull but winter it throws fits sometimes.Plus most of the time I never use choke :doh:
Hey and my 110 always starts 1st or 2nd pull no choke.:D

There is another thing to try. Drill a small hole (1/16)in the airbox, somwhere that is accessable without removing the fender. Then put a tube from a can of WD40 or such onto a can of starting fluid. A little shot of ether does wonders for cold blooded motors. A word of warning: don't use too much!!!!!
