Only need 6 plates. How to cut them exactly, no idea. I had mine back cut also, which helps elminate it from popping out of gear.

Over-ride tranny's are strictly for drag racing. It makes cluchless shifting cake. A must have for serious drag racers. You hear an override bike run it will sound like an automatic and have constant power.
The downfall is if you back load the motor (dont pull in the cluch when slowing) you will most difently bend shift forks.
Im just wondering what gears i can cut without welding the drum.

good luck with the cut. when I looked into it, all I could get off planet sand was to cut ever other tooth on the counter gears. When I called builders around me they said that was completely wrong... sorta sucks cause I dont think anyone is going to tell you!ill call around for yah.

Thats part of the process for a banshee, Not for a 250r.

i always wondered how those guys shifted like that at the face of sand mountain. now i know. but does this statement above meen no deceleration at all? if so, do they come back down on strictly brakes? just curious. this thread has my attention. i know this is for drag racing you said but they must do the same or similer for the hill shooting.

Yes the same principal works for hill shooting. And any backload will lead to bad things. Any decelaration must be done with the cluch in and brakes only.
I just looked at the shift pattern. Im going to do some cutting and see how it turns out. Right now i think i can do it, I got one that went out on a friends bike. Im going to copy whats done to his at this point. Then i will do my own work for the other gears. LETS SEE. If it dosnet work this first time the next try will be on a used tranny.

That is how the older over-rides were. The new dunable over-rides you can back load them and use them to slow you down. Cut and pasted off of a page that sells them:
"1-5 Duneable override. Override transmissions allow you to make full throttle shifts with out ever touching the clutch. Traditional overrides do not allow you to downshift untill you come to a complete stop or take the risk of bending shift forks. With M&M's duneable override, ride it just like your stocker downshifting whenever you want. New for this year we will be adding a bearing to the shift shaft on the stator side of the motor allowing for extremely smooth operation.
The neutral down option moves neutral from between 1-2 to all the way down making neutral easy to find. The netrual down option is not recommended for trail bikes because it makes it more difficult to get into first quickly without thinking like the stock location. "

I havent seen a "duneable" override last more than 4 rides.
There is no good way to do a duneable yet.

other then JDI, I dont know of anybody cutting 5th gear for a Honda. It is by far the most difficult thing to do, and JDI still does not have it mastered. If/When he does, I will have mine cut
Honda's are 'normally' cut 1-4 for a 250r based motor and 2-3 on a 500 based motor.
duneable overrides are still not proven to be good. However, WCR has one that just came out which might begin a new trend for the override crowd. This is only for the Banshee based power plants though.
adding just an override makes your bike 2-3 bike lenghts faster in 300 ft.
I have overrides in both my drag trike and DM.

ya looking at it im just going to go with the 1-4, 5 and 6 will still be there tho.
Ill gear way up to go with a 1st gear start. Im just worried, i dono WTF to do wiht the drum. I dont see what needs to be changed on it. Other than just possibly making it stronger.
Everybody has to start somewhere. So yall get to follow along and see the distruction.
Also Cory, I might soon have a bike for ya. No guarintee. I might be trading a R for a drag shee motor runs mid 4's.

A buddy of mine just purchased one, so I will get to see first hand. WCR is putting a full garentee on it for 1 yr, so that is certainly promising to a buyer

on the Honda's, Nick your right, you can keep both 5th and 6th and ride those gears normal, but you will find when you gear up, they become no use:D
Cool on getting a mid 4 sec Banshee, but I am hoping to be low. low 4's on my Honda with my new set up. To get a banshee based motor into mid 4's really aint that hard. Stock cylinder with a 4 mil on alky with drag porting can pretty much achieve that number

hey corey keep me in the loop about that tranny, I have a very close freind that had one in a 485 cheetah from wcr (a duner trannY) it exploded and wcr wouldnt replace it for any reason. They said they would cut another one for 50% off, so he sent them another core, and again 1st ride second time out the tranny blew up and wcr then wont return his phone calls or emails... I havent heard first hand from anyone else, so I would love to hear some good news.

by blew up, both times were duning, he was down shifting WITH the clutch which WCR told him he could do, and it would bend the shift fork, snap off a peace fo fork, and blow out teeth all over the place. like corey said they seem to self destruct not...break

O.k. I deleted my other post because I wasn't sure if there are any diffrences between the trx 250r trans and the atc, plus I wasn't sure were my friends got there duneable over rides from. Most are banshees yes but I did ride with a few trx 250r.
Everyone I got ahold of that was running a duneable this season was running the wcr. I dunno were the so called 4 rides fact came from, everyone I saw ran all season, most on the second season. Only one of these bikes out of the many, is a full drag bike, the rest ride the dunes. In fact I rode one more than 4 rides, all over the big dunes of st anthony.
The couple trx ones running around, were from wcr but they came from a local place, they mentioned something about they had a trick to installing them. Of course I do not know the diffrences in the trx and atc tranny. All I know is I seen them and rode with them time after time and they never said anything about any issues.
All my friends go to the dunes primarily to race, so I spent all spring and summer at Sand Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Choke Cherry, and I still have never seen a normal non duneable overide transmission. They are obsolete.
These are run on bikes running low 70 mph up the face of Sand Mountain, and backloading all the way back down.
