What are some LOW-BUCK, easy-to-install performance mods for the Tri-z? Reeds, etc? I'm really not worried about making it much faster necessarily, just making it more responsive, better-running all through the rpm range, etc.

Just curious.

I don't have any low buck mods. What you need is a bigger carb, ported cylinder, shaved head, pipe, silencer, and reeds. If you really wanna do it right have a yz250 sleeve put in & convert it to use a powervalve. :demon:

Have you got any information on the newer sleeve & powervalve set up?

Thanks

actually Jeroboam7 has already done it to his so he'd be the one to ask about it. I think basically it just involves pressing in a yz250 sleeve (or using a whole jug), the yz250 piston, and maybe some porting.

Yamaman,

Dan is right you can press in a YZ sleeve and use a YZ piston in the tri-Z just have someone that knows what they are doing do the port matching and clean up. As for the power valve you would need a powervalve jug and the governer assembly that goes in the cases, if you have a TRI-Z the cases were molded to accept the governer assembly but as you can tell those parts were left out. The only problem with using a YZ jug is the port on the head for the coolant is angled and not straight as on a TRI-Z so you either need to do some fancy coolant line routing or use a tri-z head. The TRI-Z powerplant is a direct take off of the YZ with only minor differences so changing things around is not a big problem.

AZ350X,

The cheapest mod is to have the head milled, after that you better plan on spending some $$$$$!
