Hello
A friend of mine rebuilt his 200X motor and thought he did everything right and it wont kick off. What could be the problem I would like to know becuause I am rebuilding mine this weekend.
He pushed it off and it tried to start then died every time.
Thanks,
Jason:confused:

Could be a fuel problem also. Did he go through the carb also. Or just rebuild the motor itself?.

He didnt touch the carb. should he have tuned it rich to begin with? The timing could be off should you set with the dot on the sprocket straight up with the cam lobes down and the piston at the top?

Carb jet screw fac set 2 1/4. start there then fine tune. Timeing thats the right way. it will be right or 180 out of time.

Check the wires under the tank, when I rebuilt my 85' 250R I switched the wires by accident and it would'nt start. Luckily I remembered that I was not sure which way the wires went, so that was the first thing I checked when it would'nt start.

Do a compression test on it to make shore the valves are not bent.

Does it have spark when you hold the plug on the cylinder and kick it over. The best way to tell is to have two people, one to kick and one to hold the plug. Do it at night because the spark is not very big.
My experence with recalcitent trikes is to drag start them. Use another trike, and quad, a car, even a riding mower. use third or fourth gear. Be carefull not to run over the rope when the trike starts, that can cause a crash. Drag it for a mile or two if necessary. I have found that after getting it to start onece, it will start bettern after that.
If it is out of time to fare and you kick it over you can bend the valves. tring to see if every thing machanical is working first then we cand look else ware for prob.

I was assuming that the trike has been gone over several times for why it will not start, and that anything like a backwards carb part has allready been found. As always, you have to be carefull. Good advice tho, to have your thumb on the kill switch if something is not right.
