K&N Filter with Airbox?

I'm about to buy a K&N filter for my 85' 250r. Should I get the kind that goes inside the air box or shoud I remove the air box completely and get the longer K filter with outerwear? I ride in the sand dunes mostly "Glamis" Do I need to re jet the carb with a K&N and no air box?

I run a K&N with outer wear on my 85' 250R with no lid on the air box. I run my bike exclusively at Glamis, with no problems so far. This was the set-up recommended to me by Loren at Duncan racing for the type of riding I do. You will have to richen it up if you take the air box off, because it is getting a lot more air.
