How much can the average joe pic up a puma cylinder for? I can't find any prices on them! do they need to be plated or just bored and honed?

cylinder alone would cost more then a complete 330 set up with crank, carb and pipe combo

Look at CPindustries.com or do a search on Calvin Pollet and you should be able to find out all you need to know.
(the 330's are WEAK SAUCE)

does not include gaskets/hardware/piston or any other parts
As I said before, you can build a 330 set up like you described for cheaper then just the cylinder. Pistons are nearing $200 for the Puma. You will still need ignition, intake, better pipe, bigger carb, and a longer swingarm. It then will cause you to change tire size and change the axle. Also, its wise to upgrade your crack too. Do the math, get get the Puma to run the 94+ horsepower your into it a ton of money.

Forgot to include case machining, and additional porting to open it up.
Anybody wanna take an educated guess how much it would cost to build one? :chuckle:

i think it would be around $6500 to be a 94 hp puma that will be fresh all around,,,,, trans included,,,

I would agree...for a gas powered Puma. If you were to run alky to its potential, add another grand to that number for the 48-50mm carb with bowl and fuel pump.
Kasey, I compare this type of questions to the 500 type inquires, lots of questions, with not a whole lot of doing, mainly due to cost. If you think you can buy just the Puma cylinder and run it "out of the box" then your looking at a 60-65 hp motor. All the things needed to make it run to its potential are what costs so dame much

usually thats because most people that ask the questions have no idea what it is going to take,, other than bolting it on and going,,, HP costs money,,, and if you aren't a fantastic tuner,,,,, i say probably another $2500 in parts till you either go broke or learn how to run it without a meltdown!!

We did a 90+hp puma (on 91 octane I might add) not to long ago for a guy. $2800 for the case mods, cylinder, head, piston, intake, porting and a pipe. (I think there is a thread somewhere in here about it) You guys should maybe shop around??? You gotta find a dealer to sweet talk or you'll overpay for eveything in life!
I dont understand why you would waste the $$ on a 330 kit that does 60hp? 4 mil stroke and a stock top end (327cc) can match that on HALF the cost, plus you can still order stock honda stuff instead of paying the higher price of the custom (ESR) stuff. If you want to build for power, why piss around? Do it right the first time!:nono:

reads about 12 horses high.....
75-80 is the pump limit, without anymore compression you cant run anymore porting....
I am a dealer through cp ind. I have dealt with alot of their cubs, and soon hope to have something in the puma range to play with, but even with dealer pricing, ESR cylinders look tempting,
Like Corey and JBra have stated in many previous threads, the cp 250R cylinders are a elite breed of machine, you do not buy this to dune, or to say "I got a big bore", this is a all out brew of insanity, horsepower and burnt 100 dollar bills, but when the dust settles on a build like this, there will not be many who can touch you.
to do one of these right, even with USED cases your looking at 5K EASY, dont even think about cylinder, heres the 1st 3 money eaters
CARB-easily 800
Ignition-550
crank----another 800
so we are over 2K and not even looking at your existing engine
add a pipe....Shearers are going for what 500-600
AND now you can order your cylinder.... LOL, its a whole different ball park, i give corey and jbra props for the money they put into their machines, because when your running Puma's and such, you DO NOT cut corners

I have been doing a lot of research on the Puma cylinder and this is the typical thread. People complaining about the cost. I know there are a couple Pumas out there and I want to shorten my learning curve. I don't care about cost here, I care about the setup.
I have a couple questions for THOSE THAT HAVE OR KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!
Does the cylinder fit in the ATC frame? Do I need to modify my frame?
What carb do you run? What jets?
It seems that there isn't a lot of experience with these cylinders....does anyone have any experience with reliability?
Who is good at porting these cylinders?
Thanks for the help!

Yes it fits into the frame, just have to dent the frame where the spark plug hits.
I run a 41.5 PWK carb (for gas), jets depend on if your inframe or OOF pipe..big difference in the main
Reliability....I put over 200 gallons of fuel thru my puma before putting it on alky. In the 200 gallons, I never changed the piston cause it was not needed. Run OEM gears along with stock honda clutch plates and springs
the two guys that excel at Puma porting I would venture to say are Nate McCoy and Piranha Pete. Others certainly could and probably would do a good job just dont have the experience as the two I mentioned.

Thank you duner! I have read your posts on TRX250R.net. I have a lot of my questions answered there. That is great about the fitment! I have already modified the frame crossbar, so that is awsome.
I will have to figure out the pipe issue. I can't run an OOF for what I want the motor for. I have a PTY Hi-Rev, but think a modified CR500 pipe may work better. I can try both and find out which works better.
If the intake is from a CR500, what about the exhaust flange? Is it 250r or CR500 based?

To get any decent power out of the Puma, you will want to run an OOF pipe. I ran the PT high rev and when we switched to the Shear, I would say it picked up over 10 hp easily. Matt Shear will not make an inframe pipe unless you pay big time money (close to 1k). flange is 250r
I have an oof pipe if your intrested...

yea the cost is high but when you ride one you won't think about the cost. me and my brother have a puma and saber .The puma has 48mm carb on alky and shear oof pipe on atc 250r . the jetting is something you have to play with to get it right on your set up.
