silencer packing

so i striped my pipe and silencer down to paint for my 85 200x im building...decided to pull the baffell out and inspect the packing. this is on an old school bassani pipe. well it seems to be intact but is carboned up real bad by my eyes. any thought i never repacked one so any advice would be great.

I pack as much as I can into the silencer and sometimes use very thin malleable wire to hold it in place while I stuff it into the silencer.

Moose is just one AM company that offers silencer packing, I'd get as big a piece as you can and cut it to size; Hopefully having enough to do one or two more.....
