I'm new! Back in 1985 I bought a 85 Honda 350X. I loved pulling the skiers and sledders back up the hill. The only reason I sold it was that I got tired of not having any feeling in my right leg. It seemed just about every time I started it, it would kick back on me. At the time, no one had an electric start unit available. About 2 years ago I was checking out Ebay and I spotted an identical machine with an electric start. Even though it was located over 2,000 miles across the country, I bid on it and got it. Around the time I purchased this, I was drag racing my street bike at the local drag strip. Since the track now allowed atv's to race, I thought wouldn't that be so cool to be able to drag race my 3 wheeler. After making the decision to drag race it, I spent the next 3 months purchasing replacement parts off of Ebay. One of the local cycle shops agreed to help me make this dream come true. We have a 6 foot long wheelie bar coming this week. After that's installed, it should be ready to start racing it as soon as the season starts. Half way through the build, I thought since the machine was modified for asphalt drag racing, I wouldn't be able to use it off-road......so I bought another identical machine just for off-road.

Welcome to the boards mate! I do understand the kicking the 350x part, as this is the reason I got rid of mine. Having taken my knee cap off when I was a kid, it has weakened my kicking ability somewhat. So I stick with 2 smokers for the ones to have to kick. Anyway, welcome to the boards and shoot up some pics.

Hi Ninja! I live in Pennsylvania and bought the 1st 350X from X-treme Motors in West Haven, Utah. Is that close to where you live?

Not really, it's about 4.5 hours north of me. I live in the desert.

After I asked you the question, I took the time to look at a map. I'm jealous, I dream of someday riding the sand with my 3 wheeler.

your drag racing your 350x in the stock chassis with wheelie bar on pavement?

Are you gonna strut your rear or run a MS or just keep it with the stock shock?

Waiting for the pictures too:thumbsup:

Where did you all find electric starts, I am only 15 i have been riding atc's for 13 years now but havent owned one for about 5 years , i am currently in the midst of trading my 1996 kx 60 dirt bike for a 85 350x it starts 2nd kick without choke everytime, so i dont think i need one but it would be nice. the 350x needs a gas cap, a bolt on the hub, and brake fluid, other than that it is in great shape, all new plastic an DG exhaust and he is asking 800 i think it is a pretty good deal what do yall think,

oh and i live in andrews Tx , 30 miles from the dunes, i just rode my dads 1986 350x there about a month ago , it was a blast, m first sand experience on an atc, we always go with atvs

I just talked to Chris the mechanic last week about adding the wheelie bar. We're using the original chassis with the 5" extended swingarm. The shock he's removing and replacing it with something that would make it a solid mount. The guy I bought the machine from, he also had a freshly rebuit 350X motor that I also purchased. It was only modified slightly. We put that motor in the machine. The motor that we removed, they sent that to a guy that builds race motors. Around mid season or as soon as I get used to the machine, I'll have them slip the other motor in it. I believe a stock motor is around 26 hp. The motor that's in it now, with the aftermaket pipe and racing carb, is running around 30 hp. The motor that they just finished is around 50+ hp. When I found that out, that's when I decided to order a wheelie bar....haha!

haha.....I'll try and get some pictures posted this week. The off-road 350X is pretty much stock, other than the rear tires and pipe. The one I'll be drag racing, the only thing that hasn't been replaced is the chassis and the headlight. Everything else is new, plus white strobes in the headlights, red led lighting hidden all over the machine, a shift light, and a 2 stage rev-limiter.

As far as I know, there's only one company that makes electric start units for atv & atc's. If you type in ( Goki Electric Start Unit ) you should be able to find their web site. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooo jealous! I've always wanted to ride the dunes. All we have back here are hills made from coal. If I ever get to Texas, you'll have to show me where to go riding.

Thanks Legbah!

It''ll be tough going. I'll be the only 3 wheeler racing against 20 plus 4 wheelers. I'll pretty much be representing the 3 wheeler family and I hope to gain some respect through my racing. I'm going to be the black sheep in the crowd and I'll have to earn the respect of the 4 wheeler gang. The two tracks that I'll be racing at can't wait for me to run the 3 wheeler. :hail:

We were just out there last October. We visited family out in Colorado. We decided to travel in some of the more southern states on the way out. We went through PA, WV, KY, AR, OK, TX, and then into CO. I saw a lot of places I wished I would have had my 3 wheeler with me. I do want to bring my trike out sometime, but with racing just starting the latter part of March, it's going to be rough to make it in April. After I get the first year of racing under my belt, possibly I could make it next year. Thanks for the invite!
