I don't know? maybe in the sand but on ruff trails i would not think so. the one pease would be better.

I couldn't view those, problems with the net, but..........My first R had spacers, never had a problem. Mind you, it also had proper longer wheel studs, not some bs cheap longer bolts from DuraCrap..........And the spacers were aluminum, shaped like the hubs, 2.5" a side.

I would be leary. I would rather have the one piece spacers. I could just see all them turning and snapping off inside your hub. And then having to buy new hubs after you screw them up trying to drill the broken studs out of them.

If they were cheaper i might give them a try just to see if they did work. But they are up to $41.00 allready. And i have seen 1 piece spacer go cheaper then that.

If you do get them. Please let us know what you think of them.

ok guys,, the reason i posted these is i was waiting to see how long it would be before someone designed something close to what i have been using for 15 years,,,, i drilled my hubs to 7/16" i am using grade 9 bolts with a 2 1/2" coupling nut between the hub and wheel . i use these in the woods and the dunes on my 250r and the 500r, so i know they are strong and won't break,, most people see these and say "no way i would do that" well i think the way i have done it is way stronger than screwing something on stock studs too, so let me know what you think,,,

i had some of those 30 lb aluminum things sold them on ebay for $60 ,think about how much rotating mass and unsprung weiths savings there is too,, i would love to have a dura blue extended but not at $300 apiece times 5 trikes gulp i could buy another trike ,,,,yeah another 250r :doh:

What you did I would trust better. I'v dune that on a quad and never broke a bolt. used grade 6

I would trust a solid bolt more then a threaded in setup like the ones on ebay.

Kasey are those just threaded rod coupplers?. I am going to give it a try if you have had good luck with them.

DAFT QUESTION??? What are the advantages of extended hubs??Do most my riding in woods et(not tight spaces so be ok)Thinkin of also trying out Kaseys idea, any chance of little more info on how they effect handling of the bike?

Cheers

The wider the wheel bass the more stable the trike. Disadvantage. requires wider trails.

Mr. Richard
12-03-2002, 08:13 AM
or just more aware of the fact that your 5" wider ,, it makes a big difference too

I never have understood people widening out a 250r, a 200x or something yeah I can see it, (don't know how wide the 350x is stock) but my R was so wide stock that it was a royal pain in the arse in the woods, I hated it for tight woods riding, I got stuck between two trees that everybody and their mother had been climbing the first day I rode it, I would just rather use more body english to try and control the bike now if it's just for sand dunes or whatever, or wide open riding than cool.

Is the big long nut the same thread size as the bolt?

Mr. Richard
06-01-2003, 01:31 PM
the bolts are 7/16 the nuts are 1/2 drilled out to 7/16 ,,,

IN the new dirt wheels they have an article on gear ratios.... and having a longer axle messes your gear ratio up. I had them on my 1984 250r and had no problem with them at all (i sold them now) looking back there is really no point to extenders. they do get in the way of things, though i know that.

Thats bull. only the tires and sprocket change the gear ratio.

Quote from dirt wheels magazine: " A little known fact is that extending the axles also increases the motor load and may require adding a tooth to the rear." page 146 under section, chassis changes vs. gearing.

I wasnt making it up:)

Hey Dads... there is a lot more than just tires and sprockets that change gearing.... the terrain your riding on, the weight of the rider, engine and powerband mods, Big bore kits, pipes, rad valves, porting jobs , ect., will never provide the full measure of performance you paid for until you exploit the power shifts with a matching gear change. also extending a swing arm because it messes up the center of gravity and puts more strain on the engine and then again the ratio needs a change.:nono:

I was surprised about all of this to:shocked:

dads
06-19-2003, 10:31 PM
it does not change the geare ratio it just puts more stress on the eng. to correct that you have to change the gear ratio. or go the a bigger eng. so they are rong if they say it changes it.

dave h

dads it right. you only stress the engine more. gearing is ratios, all other crap is unrelated, but you might WANT to change your gearing.

im thinking there really streching it by implying that wider axle means you have to put on wider tires with the same radii, there for would gain more traction and MAYBE need a step down in gearing. (highly unlikely)

that or the axle is soooooooo heavy that its rotating mass has to be compinsated by a step down. (even higherly unlikely :lmao: )

either way is bs and dont have to change your sprockets in those two situations.

   i've seen some scary things done to trikes but this has to be one of the worst. how you have managed to not twist or bend this set up leads me to one conclusion...you and I ride completly differant ways. you must be a very conservative rider unwilling to push your limits or the limits of your machines. although i'm sure as you have shown they can last i know in one hour i could have something on that setup bent or broken. Kasey my hats off to you. you and i totaly disagree on how to build things. you go for the cheap and homemade way while i take the more expensive and profesional way, but your way seems to work for you:confused:   . me i'll stick to not letting money stop me from the "best" set up. my life and trikes are worth the extra money for a adjustable axel. (man the way i clip trees i wonder if theyed last the first 5 minutes)

someday Kasey i hope we get to meet and have a good debate in person then go out and roost each other. no hard feelings

your right i don't know how to ride my feet fell off the pegs better hope no one was looking they might start doing this on purpose and call it freestyle...of course i was doing this about 10yrs before the so-called freestyle movement

http://www.3wheeler.org/vb/showthread.php?threadid=1972

you see that #1 plate on the front? i earned that plate and i've made a long standing bet that the first person to beat me on a trike can have it...i still got the #1 plate. and no silly brit on a TRI-Z will take it thats for sure:booty: :upyours: :loser:

DID I SAY I INVENTED IT??? DO YOU EVEN COMPREHEND SARCASIM.

let me explain it to your under developed mentality

you see i was making a JOKE about my feet off the pegs like it was an accident (which it was not for you slow yamaboy learners)and implying that someone might have seen me do it and try to do it on purpose.

for the record freestyle was invented long before Mike Metzger made it popular...ever heard of Danny "Magoo" Chandler or Roger DeCoster...
