I am doing a restomod on a 1982 ATC110. I am in Austin and would like to know if there is anyone close that could teach :slap: me how to fab with the stuff before I go buying $1k plus materials and equipment.

I have never personally made CF parts.... but it seems tough, everyone I know that has done it uses a vacuum form, fiberglass is much much easier and you don't have to be as pretty with your work, unlike CF (where you want your mat to lay uniformly so the pattern is neat) if your looking to make molds Google search "DIY fiberglass molds" and you will have more than enough info to get you well on your way:headbang:

If you're talking about CF plastics, then maier has a CF pattern and in the past would make a custom run for 10 pcs. You'd have well over 1k invested but might be able to recoup most (if not all) of your investment by selling the excess on ebay. Or maybe you could get several like minded individuals to go in with you ahead of time and split the order; Moshman did that successfully a couple of years ago with some 250R plastics.

As an aircraft mechanic I have thought about this for my 350X, With true carbon fiber it is light weight, but scary.......... when plastic brakes it can be a hazard, but when carbon fiber brakes it can be allot worse then even fiber glass. In short plastic is pliable, glass weave has smooth fibers, and cabron fibers have one way barbs like a fish hook that make a much sharper edge than anything else I work with. If it was for looks, then heck ya make away, but if it was for riding, I would buy a set of plastic s from Maier.
