I'm currently rebuilding a 85 tri-z, and the question i have is about the intake manifold boot. I think i may be able to get one off of a banshee but before i order one that is capable of holding a 38 mm. pj carb i would like to know for sure. Anyone who could help me with this i would really appreciate it. So far alot of the parts i have bought were for different atv's I installed a works shock from a warrior. I have not put on the 85 250r front end on yet but it looks like with a few minor mods to the bottom triple tree for the light and some turn stops and the thing will be jumping mx jumps and whoops with added comfort. For the moter I have a dg extreme pipe on the way as well as some boysen reed petals(wich is another quesion i have will the v-force reeds for the banshee fit? it would be nice) I raised the exhaust port 2mm. added another boost port to match the other. It's basically wrench report phase2 build. As for the head i just ran a yz gasket to take off .76mm. from the squish and the compression is perfect at 175psi. The carb is my big problem currently I believe that there's a manifold out there that will fit the 38mm. carb and already have the capability to keep the energy induction system on the bike. My plans are to keep the coolant reservoir so any tips on how to do that and eliminate the high air filter would be nice. It would be cool if I could just 90 it up and use that space I might have to cut the tool box for this. As for the rear axle I'm going to skimp a little g-force is half the price of dura-blue and still carries the warranty this axle is intended for a banshee as well I'm almost positive it will fit but if someone knows otherwise let me know

the g forrce will fit. ive been reassured this. as well as i have seen that axle take some abuse on a banshee and believe its worth it. the 250R front shock i think will make it sit to low and not ride like a tri-z but thats my 2c

The g-force axle will work I know this for a fact!
The banshee has a different intake setup so the boots and the reeds are a no go.
Get a intake boot for an early 80's yamaha it465 thats what I did for my 38mm keihn a/s also I will get you a part number for a k&n that will fit if you remove the coolant on an 85 and if its an 86 it will fit fine you just gotta trim the plastic a bit.
you can also shorten the dg silencer and it will give you a little more topend but I would go cutting a new pipe.

Hope this helps

You can drop your stock intake in a boiling pan of water and Murphy's oil soap, and get it to stretch over a PWK 39 mil carb.
I have done it. That will allow you to keep the boost bottle set-up.

If that does not suit you then go to
www.everythingbigbore.com
They sell Billet intakes with larger boots to fit the Z.
Also there is a V force 3 system now available for the Z.You canb get that at the site above too.
That combined with the newer intake and larger carb, you dont need the boost bottle.
But no banshee intake stuff will work.
When I went with a clamp on filter, I just moved the overflow bottle up under the airbox cover.

Thanks for all the help as for the intake boiling it in water seems like a great idea and corrolates with some info i got about stretching it. For the it boot they are very hard to find and if i wanted to keep the energy induction i would have to modify the manifold with fittings. The 85 250r front end is about a inch longer with alot bigger tubes it's a big dif. in suspension my tri-z is a 85 the suspension really sucks especially in whoops it just kind off wallows through em. Changing the rear was a big hit it's night and day I really love the way the engine has performed so far and with some mods this thing should be a monster because it sort of already is. It is really hard to compare to my 250r's because it's a whole different range of fast were that are was all bottom and mid range(and fast to) this tri-z kind of loads up slowly on the bottom and then quickly flys through the mid range into some pretty high r's for a 3 wheeler, so far I've been riding a stock one . I have really become a fan of this three wheeler and would like to find out all that I can about making it better without losing reliability

What year yz head gasket did you use?

What year yz head gasket did you use?
It's the same year 85 yz I'm about 90% sure of that I had a race shop match it up. The one thing about it is the coolant ports are slightly different so it needed a little careful dremeling to not obstruct the flow. I will find out for sure about the year and post it. I thought that they told me 83-89 would work but don't go and buy anything or hold me to it until I find out for sure. One thing I would really like trying that I think is possible is to use the entire jug and head off of a yz from that era. There appears to be space for the power valve and it looks like a cover off of the yz will cover the governer for the valve on the tri-z I would like to get a hold of one so I could mesure the stroke and all that good stuff.
