well fired it up this morning shifted into first and it stalled. The clutch will not engage. Searched on hear and it seems as though the arm or whatever that is connected to the cable wears out. Does that sound like the problem. Cable is adjusted, arm moves but no engagement. Seems harder to pull also. Thanks

Well, the only way to really know whats up with the clutch is to pull your right cover. Pull the center hub off your clutch basket and inspect all the parts that make up the clutch actuator. I.E. the lifter, rod, clutch arm and inspect the contact point on the center hub. Once you pull the rod out, you will be able to pull out the clutch arm.

Dont forget to look for the 1/4 ball thats on the end of the rod.

There are several things that could be the problem. The cluch rod could have welded to the ball, could have roasted the fibers (sometimes the fiber will come off) leaving it metal to metal. Several things in there could have gone wrong. Just make sure you have some slack in the lever that its not too tight also.

The thing that gets me is all last year it rode fine in the fall the clutch started getting to where it would not disengage till the lever on the bars was alomst all the way out, it sat up about 3 mo. I would start it once a week or so just didn't drive it. Now I went to ride it and it just stalled, won't push or pull with the clutch pulled. It went from one extreme to the other with nothing in between.

Did some experimenting: Cold idling or revved a little just stalls, warm revved stalls, warm idling will go in gear without creeping, shifts through the gears good while riding, will coast to a stop with cluch pulled in. Conclusion the only way it will go in gear from a neutral stop is warm and idling.

It sounds like smoked clutch plates.
