Help Me !!!

I have just rebuilt my top end and thought I have done everything right including the timing it wont kick off but it sounds like it wants to it kinda pops like its about to start but wont could it still be the timing? How should I put the CDI unit back on to do the timing should that line be straight up when its TDC PLEASE HELP. I dont know who I can call to check so if anyone has any ideas please let me know I am so frustrated and do not want this to ruin me on working on my 3wheeler.
