Clutch adj question on 185

Quick question guys (and gals)..

I adjusted the clutch on my 81 185s the other day per the info in my Clymer manual. The slotted stud is getting a little wallowed out so it is hard to hold still while tightening the locknut, Question is are you better off being on the tighter side (less than 1/8") or looser side (more than 1/8")

It all depend on if it shift well and if it slips. It dosnt have to be that close. I set mine to wear it starts to slip. And then adjust it about a 1/8-1/4 turn.

I assume that the further clockwise you set it the looser the clutch is?

Yep that is correct i beleive (its been awhile sence i adjusted mine) So i think clockwise loosenes it more..

You turn it counter clockwise until you just feel it touch. And then turn it clockwise 1/8 turn and tighten the lock nut down.
