Yep, toasted the top end at the dunes yesterday. Any recommendations for what brand/where to get a good top end kit? I'm getting pretty frustrated with it, seems like I'm definitely work on it more than riding it for sure. Guess it's time to sell it off and get some sort of 4-stroke.

that sucks to hear about. recreationunlimited.com has a $99 kit that includes all top end gaskets and a forged wiseco piston w/ rod bearing & pin. Shipping is even free!
what piston were you running? what mix?

I was running a .020 over, don't know what brand piston, and 32:1 premix with Maxima 927 Castor. It overheated again, I noticed it and started heading back to the staging area, it didn't make it. I guess the next step would be .030??? All I know is that it's gonna sit there until I'm damn good and ready to do something with it, otherwise your gonna see a bunch of parts on ebay.

man I know how you feel when it comes to your tri-z...my rebuild project has been one PITA after another! However you shouldn't give up on it. how many top ends has it cooked anyway? If it's only .020" you have 6 more to go! ;)
you'll have to let a competent machine shop tell you if or how much your cyl. needs to be bored before you order the piston. a good shop will also want the piston when they do get ready to bore it so they can bore the cylinder to your piston.

Hey Stan, sounds like you probably just need to adjust your valves, or have it done, I believe it takes a special tool.
Dan - Yeah, this overheating thing has really got me pissed off, I go through and think I've figured it out, and then it does it again. When I have it drained and apart, I'm going to go over it with a fine toothed comb, and definitely get that warning light fixed. I imagine that part cost me a load of money.

STan from this and your other post about black smoke I think you got valve adjustment problems.
