if so are there any tricks or advice you can offer me? i just got one & the kick start barely ever grabs, how can i fix this/what do i need to buy?
yes.. when you pull the right cover the auto clutch lever will fall off and you will not know were it goes ( position )
kicker put vicgrips on pline roll forward 1/4 of a turn or more..
pul out will unlock from stop. back it off will come right out...
install with spring hook at 6 oclock.
Ps reverse leve will come out to pain in the azz to get back in place with the sping before you put the cover back on...

the one way bearing on the clutch will slip when it is worn. works good hot but when oil is cold will slip. thats when it gets real bad. Like mine.
if starter just spins the one way bearing is bad on starter side'
