Does anyone out there (Mr. ATC? Fuzzy?) know if a regulator/rectifier for any other machine will work on a '85 250SX? I need a new one and the local dealer wants close to $200...OUCH!!! None of the salvage yards that I've tried have any for SX's but they have lots of quad ones. Any help would be greatly appreciated - it gets dark so early now that I need the headlight a lot more often than in the summer. No regulator means a battery that runs down very fast with the headlight on. Thanks guys.

They are pretty spendy. You can get one from partsfish they list at $141.79 but i think there selling price is actually less then that.

as far as useing one from another machine. I would guess any honda quad in the mid 80`s that had electric start would have used a similar regulator.

Here is one off of a older street bike that looks very simular http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1873090681

here is another http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1873146433

So looking on ebay i found several of them for honda motor cycles for around $10.00 or so. And as long as they are wiredthe same and the cionnectors are the same i dont see why it wouldnt work.

If you have the part number from yours. And you find a similar one on ebay for a bike. Then call the honda dealer and ask him what the part number is for one for that style bike and see if it isnt the same number. A lot of honda parts were very universal.

250 sx , 250es, 250 four trex.
Other 12 volt regs will work but plug ins may be differant and you would have to change plug ends. With the right tools you can interchange ends.

Hey thanks Fuzz, I might just give that one off of the CB500 a try...the price is definitely right.:headbang:

Timberwolf -

Is that the Bruceton, TN ride? If so, I was looking at that on the map yesterday and, yes, it's not that far at all. From the pics it looks like a pretty cool spot too. Currently the problem is no way to haul the trikes. I may get a trailer in the spring that I can pull behind the Blazer. Or possibly bum a pickup off of a buddy or from work. Gonna' make it happen one way or another!

Thanks for all of your help! :hail: :hail: :hail:
