Its been a long time since I had the 82 200M, and had to adjust the cam chain.
My 250SX is starting to pick up a little noise in the top end that is cam chain noise if I remember right. I've downloaded the 250SX service manual from here and looked at it tonight to see how to properly adjust the cam chain.
It tells about removing it, but not how to adjust it.
HELP!

Dennis, 6-18 and 6-19 of the manual. Beyond what the book says, there is no further maintenance required. What is the noise? slapping or tapping?

It sounds like a loose chain that needs some lube?
don't hear it a lot, just every so often.
Performance is good, starting, running is good. Just have this little noise that keeps coming up. I'll have to ride it some more and see if its on accel or decel. I'm thinking its on decel though.this is what I downloaded: http://72.52.143.80/~trikes/Manuals/ATC%20manuals/ATC%20250SX%20Service%20Manual%2085-87.pdf
The pages you mentioned are about lubrication? Am I on the wrong manual?

Thanks! I'll take it off and check it out.
you pull the seif adjuster and see if it has any tention on the chain....
the bolt in the end covers the screw that retracks the tentioner..

after 40+ years of working on engines I would have bet my tools that my 87 br had a chain in its immediate future.
I adjusted the VALVES and the chain slap noise went away..
Even after doing it and reading what I just wrote, I still do not believe it
