I just bought a brand new 85' 250R cylinder, piston, and head for my trike. I just blew a head gasket on the old head and wanted to replace the whole top end with my new parts. The shop called me today and said I have a 87' 250R long throw rod and cylinder installed on it and I cant use my new parts I bought. They also said I'm on my last bore and they will try to hone it and put a new piston and my new head on the old 87' cylinder. If not, they will try to find me another used 87' cylinder. Should I rebuild the crank back to stock and use my new stock parts or keep the 87' mods?
Any one have any sugestions?

Those guys you are dealing with a jackasses (or are part of a Honda shop)

a simple spacer plate will get you running again with all the '85 stuff.

try ESR for that plate

if they don't have it them CT will

What is the bore on that '87 cylinder? I know that wiseco and pro-x make pistons above Hondas +.080 over.

My guess is that you need to find a better shop or DIY.

the wiseco 526 which fits the 85-86 250r's goes to .140 on the other hand the wiseco 562 which fits the long rod motors only go to .080,,,

this info is in my wiseco book too..............

Thanks for all your help guys. The shop ended up putting a spacer plate around the long rod and installed my brand new 85' cylinder, head, and piston to it. I broke it in over thanksgiving weekend. Starts on the first kick. The old 87 cylinder was on its last bore. 80 over I kept it to re-sleave it later. :p
